I have just finished a quilt using black cotton fabric. Now the black has picked up every piece of lint!?!?! When I use the poly/cotton blend, this doesn't happen. But I find that fabric too thin. What have the rest of you talented people found and how do you keep the lint from sticking?

I usually just throw it in the dryer with a dryer sheet, and that gets most off

Use a lint brush or lint rollar(get one at the dollar store)

100% black cotton fabric is a lint magnent...but sometimes black is a necessary color to make a pattern/fabrics pop :D:D:D Lint brushes work awesome :wink:

Black is such a problem, but I need to use it sometimes. It does show every piece of lint. I use a lint brush.

I use black quite a bit for sashing to make the colors really snap. But those aren't very big pieces so there isn't much of a problem.

My sister in law uses the lint rollers that are the sticky tape kind to pick loose threads and lint off hers. Hope this helps. :D

You can also wrap some wide sticky tape round your hand and dab it all over to get the lint off, if you're a cheapskate like me!

If someone invents something to make black fabric 'lint repellent' please let me know! i use a lot of black these days. Lucky for me, my dog is black NOT white or tan! :lol:

Some Black fabrics are worse than others.... I would never put cotton/Polly blend in any of my quilts. It dose not stitch the same and if you didnt pre shrink the fabrics the cottons will shrink but the blend will not... get a small pices of different blacks and wash with something that sheds and se which one dosen't pick up the most and then re wash and see how it works before putting into your quilt... I havent ever had a problem with it and I use a lot of black. good luck

After spending ages & ages picking lint off my last black background quilt, for the OBW now finishing off, I used black batting (Quilters Dream) and am a happy bunny. I have natural calico on back as its for the wall, but no probs from that. I think most of the lint on the previous one came from the batting (W & Nat).

I have a Pledge fabric sweeper. it is awesome to pick up lint and cat hair from my black quilt back.

I love Kona Black but it does pick up lint. I use the Lint Rollers that are sticky. Works great. If there is no white in the quilt, using black batting works well.

I don't know if you want to use this on a quilt....but my DD uses Static Guard on her work clothes to repel lint, dust, pet hair, etc...
