Not sure if this is the right section for this or not?
Here is the idea - i have an old house that the front porch was enclosed and has a lot of old windows that have a very unique look to them. Anyway in the winter i want to have some kind of curtain that would extend to the floor to keep out the drafts. Wondering if i bought some fleece blankets and sewed them to make curtains if it would work to keep out the drafts and make the room warmer. thought of buying drapes but that would be astronomical in price and i really can't afford that - i figured what i would have in drapes i could probably replace a couple of the windows. last year I hung fleece blankets from the dining room to make it seem as if we weren't home when a certain person would stop by uninvited (that is a whole nother story!) and it seemed to keep the house warmer. I figured if I used fleece and it didn't work I have some material for sewing then, right :-P

Why not use the plastic made for windows to keep air out.Easy to put on.Check Wal Mart........

We use that also but still seemed a little drafty. i have cafe curtins i made from homespun - guess i am looking for ideas to keep from looking out at all the white stuff outside

Yes it would work. I've done it! The plastic over the windows work too. I hate using plastic on widows as it makes me feel claustrophobic but on porches or non essential windows would be ok.

in an old house we used to live in i hung a fleece blanket over one of the upstairs windows in the winter- IT WORKED GREAT! for some reason it seemed to collect the sun and radiate the heat- when you walked past the stairs you could actually feel heat radiating down from that window- it cut our heating bill by alot!
then i got the bright idea to add a cotton (top) with a fleece back and actually made it a curtain- that was even better- seems the cotton on one side blocked the (heat) so it only went in one direction-
either way- i think it's a good idea- worked well for us :)

Hi, I used plastic Shower Curtain Liners to hang in front of the Sliding glass doors in the kitchen of house I used to live in.. that worked for a while and really cut the cold. then when winter hit I put foam insulation panels over the doors and then the plastic which I used Duck tape to hold the plastic tight to wall...it was dark but warm... inside the kitchen and the doors were on the NW side of the house.. and anything helps here in OHio

I would use the plastic over the windows and then hang the fleece curtains. That should make it a lot warmer.

I would think fleece would stretch?

Interesting idea. I have a bedroom that never seems to be warm and I was thinking of putting a liner behind the curtains. Might just use fleece. Thanks!

Hubby office get very cold and he put a fleece blanket up and he was nice and warm all winter. But it was to hot for me with my hot flashes LOL. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
