I have never used glue, but in thinking have decided that it would be a big help in certain situations. My question pertains to using the iron on the spots with glue. I use the iron alot while piecing the tops and am wondering if the glue will still wash out ok after having been ironed? I can't wash out the glue until the quilt is done, can I? And obviously can't wash every time I use a bit of glue. I just don't want a hard nasty spot that won't wash out.

Do a sample test with the glue you have and see if it washes out. I use inexpensive white school glue and it washes out. Let us know how it turns out.:)

Elmer's Washable Glue.

I figure if Sharon Schambers can use it all over the place on her quilts, I can use it on my mine. :wink:

I frequently use glue to help match seams and have never had a problem. I use inexpensive glue sticks.

I just started using an Avery glue stick. It came from Office max. I am hooked.......no pins to stick me.....I was doing the blanket stitch on sunflowers made from a Dresden plate pattern. Sweet.....Clotilde sells an applicator..$5.00ish and my fingers stay clean..I am hooked.

I use the Elmer's white washable school glue and have to iron it to make it stick. Always washes out just fine. Have also used glue stick on freezer paper applique; again, washes out with water.

When using the Elmer's glue to "pin" seams, after hitting it with the iron, if I need to loosen the seam again I just put a drop of water on my finger, apply it to the glue, then pull the seam allowances apart. No problem.

just be sure whatever you use says washable

I love, love, love using Elmers School Glue for bindings. Don't laugh, I use Elmers "Clear" School glue in my spiked hair. Brushes out easier than gel and it is not sticky as you may think. I have never had drips coming down my face when I am in the rain either... LOL

Elmer's School Glue is a starch product, so it will wash out just like starch.

i never used it, but boy that is a great idea. i can think of many times i coulda used glue. thanks for the idea
