Does anyone know a web site I can go to that shows how to use salt in marbling fabric? thanks.

If you mean as a surface design technique with fabric painting, it's very simple to do and is included in this article: http://www.stampington.com/html/begi..._fabpaint.html

Thanks ghostrider, I want to use salt on my fabric to put some lighter spots on it. I saw it done on tv a long time ago but can't remember if you wet the fabric and how long to leave it on and what else you use. but thank you for helping.

Sorry. I've never heard of it used on commercial fabrics for anything but stain removal. I would assume the fabric has to be wet in order to activate the salt. Try sprinkling some kosher or sea salt on your fabric and misting it with water. You should be able to see results if it's going to work. The reason it works with the paints is because they have not yet been heat set. The dyes in commercial fabrics are well set before you buy it.

Thanks butterflywing, that is closer to what I wanted. I was using iodized salt maybe that was the problem. You don't think I was dreaming and made this up in my head, no not me!

Use bigger salt crystals to get a more dramatic effect. If you wet the fabric, make sure you squeeze it out as dry as if it was spun in the washer, and alternate sprinkling salt and dye. And POST PICS!!!

Thank you everyone for all your help. I decided to do something easier, (not in the mood to learn something new today) so I made a trip to the quilt store and found what I needed and it works perfectly. I will post a picture when I finish.
