Do you miss your "work" at home while you are on vacation. I am talking about the "work" you do for your self-expression. I am having a great time on vacation, but I am thinking of all the new things I could be doing in the workshop and sewing room. I have not really taken a true vacation for about 13 years. Weekend getaways, yes, but not extended stay away trips. I am a sort of work driven person and enjoy what I did for money and now for myself. I hated to interrupt a job with leaving town for any amount of time. Any time spent way, was time I wasn't getting the job done. My wife loves to travel. she used to work a very demanding job as an executive in the publishing business. The stresses of getting the job done for her, meant that vacations were an outlet for her exhaustion, and so she looked forward to them. I have already started planning some alterations to the sewing room and new bag designs, and Oh, you get the idea. So, do you like to take vacations or are you a craft-a-holic like me?

I am a craft person who loves what I do, but also loves vacations. I believe I become too stale if I only stay at one thing. I don't necessarily take LONG vacations, but many shorter ones keep me energized, refreshed and creative. It will take time, but balance will come (smile).

Sniff, sniff, we did not get to go on our vacation this year.... Maybe in November or December. I was going to take my machine up to Lake Tahoe with me!!!! MIL had 5 way heart bypass surgery, emergency like. We had to cancel. That was last week.

Yes, I like to take vacations...but I take along small projects to tide me over until I return to my sewing room.

I ride across country - but I have a trailer I can carry lots of things, including a sewing machine so I don't feel lost!

I love the thought of vacations, but once I'm away I start itching pretty quickly to come back home again.

No, I prefer to stay home. I retired for a year and back at work now, parttime. I hated staying home day after day, I loved making more quilts and faster but, I missed going out everyday. Vacations are almost impossible with a dog and 4 cats and a bird. We vacationed when our three kids lived at home, guess I got it out of my system then.

Haha, I would first have to take a vacation to be able to answer that question! I haven't been on a true vacation in years. Though I often fantasize about a beach-side cottage, a bottle of Zinfandel and my sewing machine... does that count? Sounds like your cup of creativity runneth over - hallelujah!

I have become a recluse at home but do love to take the camper and get away for a week end or better yet a week. No housework to do just a little sweeping and dinner dishes. A good bbok and a nice chair and I am all set!

what's a vacation? HAven't had one since I flew out to New York when my grandson turned 1 yr old. He is now 5. Any places I have gone to have been for work, training etc.

I sometimes take my crafts with me so if I want to do something I can and if not then I can relax.

I love going on vacation, but it's just one week a year and that's enough for me. I'm always ready to come home though.

MrG doesn't really like to leave his working. He's down to part time and probably will never give it up. I took the grandson to Chicago for a week and we had a blast. I am a homebody too and I love to sew. You only live once. You may as well love it.

I always have to have hand work going. So on my vacation I brought my GFG to work on. I even starched down enough hex's for 3 'flowers' in one of the hotel rooms!

I used to do a lot of traveling but since I became involved with basset hound rescue I find most of my traveling revolves around basset friends or events. I haven't gone anywhere without 2 or 3 of the hounds in years. If I'm going to friends for longer than a weekend I pack up my machine and fabric and sew while I'm away. You'd think I'd get more finished than I do-right?

every time I go in my quilting room it feels like a mini get away :-) . as for the real thing, i love to travel and see new places, experience new people, foods, cultures - and of course always hunting for a quilt shop while i'm traveling. that's where my avatar name comes from :-) I try to do see bits and pieces of the world as often as the budget allows. but there is no place like home :-)

Our big vacations are usually a week or so but I don't take any quilting with me. I would make sure the house was in order before we left so I could get back to my sewing machine when we returned and not have to do housework or laundry. During car or plane trips my mind wanders to what I was working on, ideas for new quilts or mini remodeling for our house. Shorter weekend vacations most likely include a stop at a fabric shop.

When we go see to my father-in-law I feel like I should be sewing. I do enjoy taking care of him and visiting, but get "ansy" having to just sit, sit, sit, sit! I have some hand projects that are portable so I take them along and work away. I feel your pain.

I take hand work with me and then I look up any quilt shops along the way. There is always time for me to slip away while my husband and sons to something else. So I guess I get the best of both. On the drive home I am always planning the quilt I will make with my new vaction fabric.

I always take hand sewing along w/ me in a an old leather purse. I have it set up w/ pins, thread, needles, sm ruler, pattern piece, and enough cut pcs to last as long as I'm out. When I get home, I set it up again and leave it on the wall side of the bedrm doorknob. I always take a book, notebk too.

I rarely get to use it, however. Just at night, and I'm too tired from all we do all day to sew much. I don't sew/ reading the car cus hubs drives and he likes to have a copilot to talk with if hes driving alot.

The things we do takes us to places I've never been and I eat it up. We went to New Orleans a month ago and walked all over the place, and road the trollies all over. Took tons of pics, went to museums, ate local foods, talked to people from there on the trollies, etc - it just feeds my mind and I am never so bored to be thinking I'm "missing" something back home. If you do that you're actually not experienceing the "now" of where you are. I want to know everything there is to know about everything -lol. I love love love to travel, see new things, experience different cultures, etc. Haven't got to do it since getting out of the Navy, and now the kids are always scheduled. But I always carried something with me; cross-stitch or some such portable project.

I take my crochet or knitting on vacations when I can't take my machine. I feel like I'm getting something done, it keeps my hands busy and I don't miss my little sewing studio and stash as much.

Just spent a week in the White Mountains, about two hours from home. Maybe it was too close to home but I kept thinking about all the things that needed to be done at home and, about my fur babies. It didn't help that it rained for three days straight!
