Value glasses?
I hear about value glasses and I have looked them up on Google but what are the best ones to use or what do all of you use? Sometimes I ask my DH because he is color blind and he can tell me what is good or not but I would rather do it myself. Any suggestions?

A see through red plastic will work fine. I use a big piece to see contrast in all my fabric selections for a quilt. Many people put the plastic to their eyes but I was taught to hold it about arm length and look through it. You can use see- through green to see contrast in reds. It really works. Many times I think two fabrics are contrasting and find out they have the same value. It's great for log cabin fabrics.

To determine value, a red plastic tool is used to see value. I also wonder about red plastic wrap if that wouldn't work, too. I have seen the red plastic wrap available for sale during the holidays, I'm not sure if it's available now. You might want to check out some quilting sites and see if they have it for sale. I don't know what the name of the plastic tool would be, but you could check out Nancy's Notions and see if they have it. I think I saw it there.

Occasionally I use the black and white on my printer. It really shows the difference in some colors. Sometimes you think a color is darker than another and are surprised when it's not. It really helps when picking for a Bargello quilt.

I have a Ruby Beholder ... though I have never been able to get the knack of how to use it! :)
ITA ... B+W via the printer has worked better for me. |
I switch my camera to the black and white setting and either look at the display or actually take a picture.

I use the red side of the little 3 D glasses that came in a cereal box. Some people buy a clear red plastc folder/binder from the $ store to looks through.

AuntPiggylpn has hooked me up. Thanks for all the advice. I am going to use the B&W until I get the others. Everyone is always so helpful on here that I cannot help but think that if I could somehow live near ALL of you, I would have the BEST of friends. lol Thank you all again
