I'm looking at a vintage singer which according to the singer site was made either in 1910 or 1916. (2 different dates?) Anyhow, I posted before about a replica made in China and was given excellent advice. What about the originals made in other countries? Run or deal? Thanks!

Look for anything NOT made in China, those are LOW quality machines, not worth your time and $$

the newer treadle machines are "Singers" made in China, not a good machine, Run, do not walk to a reputable dealer, or a YARD SALE, hello, the very best machines are available for $10 or less.

Singer had factorys in Canada, Scotland, USA and maybe more countries. They are all quality machines. Make sure the machine you are interested in runs on 110 Alternating current. Some countries have other current. I would not buy a machine made in China and I'd think twice about Japanese made machines.

Have you researched through Singer to see if any were made there?
There's also another thread on this site for vintage machines. He's very helpful and probably could answer your questions too. Good luck |
Yes, I found that it was made in Scotland from the singer site.
