I have a Bernina QE153 and am using the walking foot for the first time today. Will it work with stitches other than just straight as long as the lower plates are the right ones? I'm thinking about using it instead of hand stitching my binding down on some charity childrens' quilts. Thanks for any help.

Yes, as long as the stitches are not wider than your opening in your foot.
I use mine all of the time for this :D:D:D

Hint: use a more open design, elongate the stitch a little too

On my Brother I just adjust the stitches so they are not too wide as to hit the foot and I am fine

I would test the process first. You also might have slow down your speed. You hav me thinking I might get out my old singer with walking foot and try it myself.

I use the walking foot and decorative stitches on all of my Linus Quilts. The hole in my walking foot is as big as any of my special feet.

I use my walking foot for almost all sewing. I have a Jamome 3050 with decorative stiches and the foot works great. I even use it for piecing. Maybe I'm lazy

I have a 153 QE and the only caution on the instruction sheet for the walking foot is that the maximum stitch length (not width) for reverse stitches is 3. The opening in the foot, both soles, is pretty wide so I would test the stitching on a scrap with a regular foot using the stitch width you want and then make sure it fits within the walking foot opening.

I cannot thank you all enough. I did not want to mess it up since the walking foot is so expensive and I just did not find the answer anywhere. It works just fine... Mary

It will work just fine, I used to own the Bernina 150 QE and have quilted using the decorative stitches. You do have to sew slower so the stitches come out nice on the quilt, I've also sewn my binding down with the fancy stitches.
