Walking foot and needles
 

Hi every one hope all the quilting is going well .
I have been waiting for a walking foot to be delivered and was thinking can i use a double needle on it?
Just think it would look nice .

It depends on your machine. Most should be able to take a double needle with a walking foot. I can do it with my Bernina. But if it has a side-loading bobbin, and the hook is sitting in there sideways, then no. Like a Juki TL Series machine wouldn't be able to take a double needle. Or some side-loading, vintage machines have the hook sitting sideways. Front-loading and top-loading machines can take a double needle with a walking foot.

It depends on the walking foot. Some have just a single hole for one needle to pass through. Others have a rectangle which will allow 2 needles through.

An open toe walking foot should do the smaller twin needles. Don't try a 6.0.

If you do try, make sure you are set for straight stitch, and turn on Twin needle on your machine. Twin needle usually limits the needle movement for other stitching to 4mm. This should fit very well in the openings of the foot and your sole plate. This way, if you make a mistake by not selecting straight stitch when you start, you won't accidentally hit the sole plate and break needles, or if you are using a fancy stitch, it will keep that stitch in the right limits.

Oh boy, please check first before trying. read your manual and call a shop if need be.

My machine is a old Omega .
And being a new quilter Guess i better go to the shop and ask him first because I have no idea what you are saying when you say top or side load lol must be a age thing haha.
I just wanted to make it look fancy . I will wait and see what he says after I get the foot in the mail.

Are you aware of what the backside of double needle stitching looks like? Quite industrial, I think. Be careful!

If you want to add some fancy stitching, I wouldn't do it when you quilting the three layers together. Usually, I do my decorative stitches on the top before quilting. Walking foot is for quilting your top. Have fun.
