i have a brother 6000 & a janome 2010[new] i need an answer as soon as i can get it ,'cause i'm ready to start quilting ! shouldn't have waited so long to ask.n i do any other stitch besides straight stitch w/it ? maybe a wavy pattern? if anyone is online that can help me,i'd sure be grateful.i'm anxious to get startyed but am afraid of messing up my babies ! just got the brotherback after 4 weeks !!!!that's how i ended up buying the janome ,i had no back-up.thanx ahead of time,dar

Sorry you haven't gotten any help. As I understand, I am limited to a straight stitch when I have my walking foot on. No reverse either. I wouldn't risk it until I knew for sure.

I don't have the same machine that you have, but I just checked the manual for my Brother Innovis 4000 and it says I can use straight or zigzag stitches with my walking foot. As Dorothy mentioned, do not try to do any reverse stitching.

I have a Viking and can do any stitches that do not go in reverse. Serpentine (wavy) is one of my favorites. I hear that the new Viking walking foot will work in reverse. I haven't tried it yet because it's over $100.

The walking foot does not like curves either. You might be able to do curves if they are very wide gentle curves, but I think it will skew the layers of the quilt.

one more question.........can i use the serpentine stitch built into my machine ,or only free motion ?thanx in advance

you should be able to use the one built into your machine. that's what i use.

i sometimes do a long wavy stitch with my walking foot. i just move the quilt to the right and then to the left as i'm stitching. it's easier than stitching "in the ditch" and looks good too.
