I would like to make a wall hanging that would be about 36" wide and 16" high. A long horizontal rectangular hanging. Would it be reasonable to three 8" blocks? This is the block I had in mind.

Do you think there would be any problem with this? I would like to do sashing in between and a border around. What do you think?

Thanks for your advice!

If I understand what you're asking, I don't see why it wouldn't be reasonable. You can do pretty much anything you want as long as you like it! Lol* If you mean you want to do three 8x8 blocks side by side, then I'm guessing to achieve the 36x16 measurements you're figuring in the border and sashing. Like maybe something to hang over a couch or mantle? Sounds ok to me! Hanging might be tricky, but I'm sure you can do it! :)

Sounds good to me. I would do three 8" squares with 3" sashing between them and a 3" border all the way around. That makes it nice and balanced. It would be 36" by 14". Or, better yet, increase the border to 4" and have it 38" by 16".

Play with different measurements on some graph paper and you should be able to tell what looks good to you pretty quickly. You can even find graph paper on the internet (or use Excel like I do).
