I was in walmart this morning and took a peak at the fabric....they had abunch of bolts of cranston fabric for $2.00 also the better vip...really nice and would you believe we now have jelly rolls and fat quarters...I was in a hurry so I didn't check those....our walmart sells a lot of fabric

Strips and coordinated fat quarters showed up in our Walmart this week. The strip bundles only have a few different patterns with inconsistent amounts of each. The quality is certainly not Moda standard, but may be ok for some projects. Alas Walmart is adament about giving up their regular bolted fabrics (not enough profit margin they said) and they will be phased out in each store as the store itself does its scheduled "redo". Ours was supposed to go in February but got a reprieve until May. It's really a shame because they are starting to get in some really nice coordinated fabrics. Every time I go I feel I should buy 2 yards of each just because it won't be there much longer. I don't know how they can say no profit when it sells out as fast as it comes in.

our store is wierd. the department was resized a few years ago and seems to be there to stay. however, they are not getting all the nicer fabs so many of the other stores with fabs seem to be getting in. (either that or they are flying off the racks faster than i can track. )

check the fat quarter rolls carefully. some of them seem quite nice for the price. the batik roll, for example, has pieces i'm fairly certain normally go elsewhere for at least $6 per yard. i found one roll in our store, though, that included a fat quarter from a fabric they sell for $2.50 per yard. that means some of the fabs in the FQ rolls are at least double the price they'd charge by the yard. the fabs in the blenders roll looked and felt as though they'd sell for about the same cost per yard.

I looked at the single fat quarters and thought they were the same ones joanns has at the same price...but joanns has sales :D For a $20 jelly roll, i can cut my own...didn't think much of the fabrics in them

our local walmarts fabric section is so bare its not funny. plus almost every time I get fabric there its stained or ripped or there is less then a yard. PLUS they want more then the local Joanns for the SAME FABRIC! I checked it out once. I wish my Walmart had a nicer fabric section

we don't have the $9 one...we have a lot of flannel fats and a few jelly ro;ll ones....no batik like patrice found...guess you have to keep checking till you find what you like
:D

In the picture those look almost like fat eights Darlene...those are very pretty colors

Darlene,
So funny you would have that exact picture posted today. I bought that same fabric in 1/2 yard pieces at my local Walmart last week. I thought it would make a cute Easter egg wall hanging. I just now was signing on to say that I had just washed the fabric and there was no color loss at all, the colorcastcher was still clean and white. Doesn't seem to be too much shrinkage either. What are you going to be making with your set?

Darlene 03-08-2009 02:56 PM

Well I just measured the fabrics and they are 22" x 18" in a rectangle. So I guess they are fat quarters. Other fat quarters are different. I don't know what I will do with them but I needed some bright colors to add to my stash. I have looked at a lot of fq's in the catalogs I get and liked these just as well. Be sure to show us your Easter quilt will it be a mini?
Good to know they don't bleed too. The pkg. said made in India.
