I use WalMart fabric when I find a Walmart that still has some. I use it for utility quilts and projects like placemats and potholders. I stock up on fusibles and Warm and Natural batting. It's half the price of Joannns or Hobby Lobby. I've noticed some of the utility quilts, the cheaper WalMart fabric is fraying at the seam line, they will be used for whatever quilts so no biggy.

I find very nice cotton fabric in WalMart, but in the WalMart near me the flannel isn't that great. You just have to watch the quality, and in my WalMart we are getting a LOT of fabric marked unknown content :roll: Just like in any store you have to watch , I have seen bad fabric in joAnns, Hancocks and LQS

What I have used from wal mart I put on the back of my quilt and it faded badly.Did not like the results but didnt pay much

In the past, I have used Walmart ,JoAnn and Hancock fabrics. They are fine for stockings, charity quilts or kid quilts. I have made quillows that lasted for years and that were used to the point of nonrepairable. Also good for nursing home quilts and people that may not appreciate the time and money that you spend on a quilt. If you are making a special quilt that will be appreciated and cared for for many years, I would buy Quilt Shop quality fabric. I only speak for 100% cotton and have not purchased flannel from Walmart. Feel the fabric and look for clear colors and patterns that are not blurred.

I have bought fabric at Walmart and have been pleased with it. I agree that you do have to really feel it, and hold it up to the light. So far, though, I have not had any problem with it.

So true! When I first started quilting, the only place for me to get material was Wallmart, and those quilts are still in use, that was 12 years ago. You just have to check the feel. A lot of these small LQS do not have high quality material, but still sell it at high prices. So, just pick what you like and what feels right for you.Also, if there is a Hobby Lobby near you, they have great material. You can go on line and get a 40% coupon any time you want it. I am not a big Joann's fan either. Also, check on line, lots of places are having sells.

I don't use Wal-Mart fabric for my quilts. I do use their fabric for lots of craft projects, crayon rolls, purses, kid's clothes, etc. I give quilting lessons to my co-workers, I will tell them to buy what they can afford. Many of them buy fabric from Wal-Mart and that is ok with me. We all need to work within our means. If I'm making a quilt for a child that will get drug around, I think Wal-Mart is a great option for fabric.

I buy a lot of flannel at my Wal-Mart for baby projects. Yes, they have had inferior flannel but what I buy is from AE Nathen. Their flannel selection isn't as large but the price is right.
