I washed some fabric on the delicate cycle on my washer and found that I had less thread to cut off the fabric and less tangled up fabric .

Great tip. Thanks for sharing (smile).

I always wash fabric on delicate and only set it for 5 minutes. That's enough to wash out the chemicals without worrying the fabric too much. It does fray less and long yardages don't tangle so much.

I washed some yesterday and used the shortest regular cycle I had and lost fewer threads, too

I always do that. Also, if I have yardage pieces, I fan fold them into about 1 yd length and safety pin the selvedges together. They go thru the washer and dryer that way and are so much easier to handle.

I do wash on gentle, but I will definitely try this idea.
