In the beginning I didn't but now do. Cold gentle wash, air dry or dry on low heat and do not dry clean.)

What are color catcher sheets? I never heard of them.
Where can purchase them?

Shout makes Color Catcher sheets. They are usually available at Wal Mart, groceries, etc. in the laundry section next to such things as stain removal, dryer sheets, etc.

I pre-wash all gift quilts, but do not pre-wash a customer's quilt unless asked to. I do include a quilt care sheet with every gift or order. I am happy to email that sheet to anyone.

I wash every quilt as soon as I finish the binding. With all the starch I use, and all the handling, I figure it needs it, and I want to see how it looks after washing. When I give them away, I give directions for how to wash them. Before I started quilting I had no idea how or whether to wash a quilt. If someone had given me one, I would have worried about how to take care of it. I think it's a kindness to tell someone that yes, the new quilt can be washed, and giving instructions. This provides the freedom to use the quilt rather than put it on a shelf.

I tell mine, machine wash, cold, delicate cycle, then machine dry on low. Mine all do fine this way, as I prewash all my fabrics before I work with them....
