Spring is in the air, and I've just started washing my quilts. How often do you wash yours? I'm talking about the ones on display or in a cabinet. I would assume you wash the quilts you are using more than once a year. And, do you throw them in the dryer or layout on the floor or bed, wet, to block them?

The ones being displayed are never washed..they are hung outside once a year in the early fall for "airing" and the refolded and put back on display!
The usable quilts are washed as needed and mainly just aired... |
i wash when they need it. dry on low in the dryer. all have warm and natural or bamboo batting. don't see any shrinkage. older quilts with old batting might not do well in the dryer. older quilts i think i would hang dry. don't have any place to lay them flat.

I wash as needed on the gentle cycle and lay them out on the bed to dry, turning them several times so they dry evenly. The less stress on the fibers the longer they will last.
Most of my quilts have never been washed. I only wash the few that are used everyday / regularly. They are washed in washing machine and hung on the line to dry.
Mine are washed in Orvis soap as needed.
I wash and dry my quilts by machine. Most are in use for at least 2 to 3 months out of the year (seasonal).
I toss mine inon the gentle cycle, then line dry!
Mine are handquilted, so I wash in the tub, rinse well, spin in the washer and line dry. Love that clean smell!!
I wash mine when they get dirty(the one on my king bed has a sheet over it b/c of the cats and just got puked on) I wash them in my front load washer(no agitator) and dry in the dryer. I don't have a clothesline and no place large enough to lay it out. i have to fluff and redry several times to get it dry. smaller quilts i might lay out.
