I have a close friend who has been searching for Coats and Clark or Signature brand WAXED THREAD for hand quilting.
Marilyn is looking for colors, she doesn't need black or white.

I told her I'd give it a shot on the Board for her, as you all are the best resource there is.

She can always buy unwaxed in any color she likes and wax it herself with a bit of bees wax.

I just buy the colors I like in hand quilting thread and then lightly run through the beeswax.

how do you run it through the wax? just thread a needle and then stab a block of wax? Or do you do something else?

Hi
Thanks for this; it's useful for me to know.
She, however, wants to purchase a lot of spools.

Gutermann, it is not really waxed it is just coated for quilting. You should be able to find it at any good fabric store, JoAnn's, Hancocks. Even Coats and Clarks have several colors. They do have Red, greens and many browns and rusts. Gutermann, has all colors.

You can buy a little plastic-encased waxing block just for this purpose (a couple of dollars, I think). It has slits in each side to make it easy to run the thread over the wax. The needle does not touch the wax.

Is she absolutely sure it is waxed? I found C&C hand quilting thread, but it has a glazed finish on it (not wax). Here is a link:

In the Signature brand I found only machine quilting thread:

thanks for the help; she's sure though; thinks C&C stopped making it, so is hoping to find some in a shop that has old stuff.

Most beekeepers will sell you blocks of wax. Last time I bought a brick of it, maybe 5 pounds, it was less than ten bucks. Great for sticky drawers and such, too.
