We can all relate to this!!

My daughter drove me to a Dr. appt on Tuesday--it's custom that these trips every three months include visits to some of the Thrift Stores in that town. I knew I was in trouble when I was looking at material hanging on a rack when I heard from about three aisles over my daughter calling her best friend of 30 yrs......she was saying, oh, my gosh Shelley, mom is at it again and we are going to have to stage an intervention before she becomes a hoarder of flannel material!!! I told her, "go for it, I am having a blast!" And, boy did I!! I left with almost 40 large pieces of new flannel--a couple were big enough for twin backings! But, the best find--a ziplock filled with 300 pre-cut vintage cotton 8" squares for $2.99. ALL, for a little less than $50.

I would have joined right in with you - no intervention required! Sound like a wonderful day for all and congrats on the score!

Wow, great find!

At times like that ... remind her that you're creating her inheritance!

I've never done the thrift store shopping..but I like what everyone finds...I may have to make time to visit a few in my area

I bet you've made your daughter a quilt or two. If not, do so. That should help her enjoy your passion for fabric.

Great buy, I love going to thrift shops, but I never find any fabric

booklady 11-18-2011 09:14 PM

Make her a quilt from your "finds". Then she might have second thoughts about her intervention!

catladyquilts 11-19-2011 03:22 AM

what a score - tell her to go to the fabric store and price what you just spent $50 on and see who has the shocked look on her face. you go girl

I hit the thrift stores about once a week.. People don't know what they are missing..

jitkaau 11-19-2011 04:12 AM

Sounds like you both have a good sense of humour about it - keep it up, $50 would by about a quarter of a quilt top in my town!

sew1096 11-19-2011 04:40 AM

What a great deal. I never think to look for fabric at the thrift stores but my daughter is the same. She says I'm in danger of becoming a hoarder! Imagine that. I know I have a large stash but really!! :)

karenpatrick 11-19-2011 04:44 AM

Sounds normal to me. No intervention necessary.

SueDor 11-19-2011 05:10 AM

Sounds like fun.

I was lucky enough to find several bolts of cotton fabric at a local Thrift store. I don't know who gave it but I grabbed it fast. Imagine getting up to 20 yrds. of fabric for less than $5. I make sure to check there everytime I am in the area.

Nice! :) It's nice when you come across something like that. I've only been to a couple thrift stores, but didn't find any fabric. :(

Now, you all know if we were all with her at that time that there would be a fight! We all would have wanted that fabric! However, I agree. No intervention is needed. Well, maybe for the daughter. She needs to understand the allure of quilting. Yes, definitely, if there is an intervention to make people quilt, we should change the world one non-quilter at a time. Of course if we get too many quilters out there, we would have a harder time finding fabric at thrift stores! Enjoy your find Kathyjg.

Sounds like a blast, I wish I had been there to see.
