It appears that I was the one confused. That can happen pretty easily lately. :shock: I went back and read the post just above mine and sure enough, there is a BETH there whose signature is very faint (like a forward or a footer).

You were correct to address her and I was not the one who made the pretty quilt you saw nor the pillow either. That's OK! I will be happy to take credit for all of it. Meantime, you are right on! I hope BETH sees your messge.

I've seen wedding dresses made into doll wedding dresses but never the quilts. What a nice idea. Loved the idea of the hankies especially. How nice it would be to have your "something old" be a hankie made from your mother or grandmother's wedding dress.

Oh! Loretta! If you think they're sad let me tell you my story!

My dress came from a consignment shop called Something Old and Something New. I went in for one dress and came with a different one (those ladies loved me and kept making me try on dresses!)

Now it was a little big and needed altered, not to metion I'm only 5"3" and wanted to wear ballerina slippers. The office where I worked told me about this great woman who did all sorts of altering in the next town over. So I get there and tell her what I want done (it had this horrid satin ribbon over the bottom that didn't match the rest of the dress at all). I told her in no uncertain terms to cut that off and leave it off.

Guess what she told me! "I told her she shouldn't have it on there! But she wouldn't listen!" Huuu? Come to find out the bride that wore my wedding dress had it altered at the same place I did, to have that ribbon put on! Come to find out when I was getting married she was still happily married and had two children with I think a third on the way!

So the first thing I wanted to do when I got home from my honeymoon was take it back to the consignment shop! I told dh it was a dress that was supposed to be WORN and bring other's happiness. He wouldn't let me sell it so it's wrapped up in the back of my closet. Still to this day Nearly 5 years later he wont let me sell it. Says I might want it for dd one day, who knows that might be true. ;)

My dress was dry clean only and even then only with extreme care and I just can't imagine having it as a quilt. Shoot what if the cat messed on it!?!?! Ah well that's my house one husband, one toddler and three cats. hehehe, always have to think about the might be messes.

For my wedding I asked my mother to use her wedding dress to make me the ring bearer's pillow and my garder. They turned out great!! Oh she also made the bridal dance bag with her dress too.

Wasn't it an old tradition to take the wedding dress and make christening gowns out of it?
That is what I would do with the cost of the dress...

I made a christening gown from the mother's wedding gown once. It was stunning, but a lot of work. It seems it takes twice as long because you have to undo a dress before you can make another...

My mother is going to do that for my kids with her own wedding dress.
She originally wanted me to wear her dress, but it's way too large and way too short. I will either be making my own, or having it made, so I suppose I could use some of the fabric from her dress in my dress, but it's a completely different style...

I would have no problem using my wedding dress for a quilt. My daughter in law wanted to use her dress to make baby quilts. She's been married 6 years and had a beautiful dress. I have kept my wedding hat with the long tulle in my bedroom next to an awesome double exposed wedding picture. The picture is me looking at my bouquet and the bridal party during the saying of our vows. I couldn't afford the picture when we were married but when the photographer retired he sold every picture in his shop for 1/2 price, so their were many happy people that could finally afford to buy their beautiful display photographs. I was not able to open the second link posted. could someone repost it?

I heard of this right after I got married in November of 2006. I came across a website and thought oh, I don't know if I could do that just yet...maybe after a few years. lol. But, they do make gorgeous quilts.
