I saw it referred to in a thread and asked what it is. I didnt get any answers(which is unusual on this board) lol. So I thought would ask as a thread. Wondering if I need one ROFL

It is a computer for a mid arm machine....Viking has the QBot for their new 18' throat quilting machine... You load designs in the QBOT and it stitches them out (quilts) on the frame just like an embroidery design is stitched our on you embroidery machines...........You can also go on the INSPIRA web site and see info on these....check this site out too.....

It is advertised that it even works with the Grandquilter but the throat opening on the GQ is only 9" so your quilted design cannot be very large. Another drawback is that the start and stop is on the handle part so if you set your beginning reference point, starting the Q-bot might get the setup out of alignment. It is also quite expensive - MSRP I think is around $4,800.
I'd rather save my money for a mid-arm quilter with a built-in stitch regulator.

I'm not sure I would want to hand over all the quilting to a machine.

I happen to have a Qbot attached to my 9" Pfaff GrandQuilter. It comes with a number of quilt motifs and more can be purchased from Golden Threads. If you purchase 4D Quilt Creator software ($400-500), you can also purchase and use designs created for the Statler Stitcher and other longarm machines with your Qbot. Or you can create your own quilt motifs from drawings or pictures, then stitch them onto your quilt. I paid around $3,850 for the Qbot and software together. The Qbot can be used on a number of machines, including Viking Megaquilter, Pfaff GrandQuilter, Tin Lizzie 18, Tin Lizzie Queen, Tin Lizzie Ansley, ABM Innova 18, Innova 21, Innova 26, Hinterberg Indigo, Hobby Quilter HQ 16, HQ Fusion and Nolting FunQuilter machines.

Was it worth it? Would you do it again? What kind of designs do you program? Sorry - feeling the need to pick your brain.

For me, it was worth it. My practice pieces weren't up to the level I wanted. So, this gave me a way to do some really nice quilting at my experience / talent level. So far, the designs I've made are just modifications to designs that came with the Qbot. I've also downloaded some free patterns, which I'd like to try out someday. I just recently bought a digitizing tablet and the latest software for the Qbot. This will allow me to draw my own patterns freehand. I'm planning a wholecloth wall hanging now, which will contain my family crest on a shield, our last name and the year the crest was granted, along with some additional Celtic designs. The new software also has the ability to create and use fill patterns for blocks, like stipple and cross-hatch. The first item to be drawn is a sword. I've drawn it out on paper and just need to transfer it to my computer. My family crest contains 3 swords on a black background. I'll use shadow trapunto for the shield background. If I don't like how the shadow trapunto looks, I may swtch to fabric painting the black instead. I've attached a picture of my family crest. The wall hanging won't be quite as elaborate at this picture. I'll only be using the shield portion from it.
