What is the best ruler to use for a drunkard's path quilt?
 

I was hoping to make a drunkard's path quilt soon, but I want to get a ruler for cutting the curved pieces. There are so many specialty rulers out there for this that I don't really know which one is best. I would like one that will make multiple sized blocks, if possible. Have you tried any? Which one is the best for someone making a quilt with curved seams fior the first time? Are there any good ones that give you more than one size finished block?

All the DP rulers I have seen you have to buy the size you want the block to be. There are mock DP blocks you can make cutting circles and sewing the circle to a square and then cutting in fourths.

I bought Elisa's Back Porch Designs acrylic templates for Drunkard's Path in the 3½" and 7" sizes and then trimmed them to 3" and 6" finished sizes.

This is the quilt I designed for those two sizes of the block:

i have the backporch acrylic templates. i tend to lay them on the fabric and trace around with a pencil. i lay the template next to the lines and draw again. i save as much fabric as i can that way. then i cut them out with scissors.
now, when sewing curves just match centers and sides/ends. you can fold each piece to find the centers and crease with your fingers to make a fold mark you can see to pin the pieces together. they are not terribly hard to do. have fun!

Great question. I love DP, but haven't done one yet.

Don't buy a special ruler if you have a printer. Google Inklingo. It is my preferred method for DP. Very precise.

I too have the Elisa's Back porch rulers and absolutely love them. I bought them at a Quilt Show and she explained to me that the are a degree or two off but still look exactly like a circle. The reason she designed them like that was they go together much easier and you do not have to do any clipping to make it lie flat - just press the seam to which ever side you want. I have made several quilts using her templates

mine are the two pieces of the DP too. some sell only one and you waste more fabric that way. the "pie" piece and the "arc" piece make up the whole block. have fun. lots and lots of designs you can make with these.
