What can/should I do with an inherited Viking Rose???
 

Hi there ladies. I am hoping to get a little advice on an old Husqvarna Viking Rose that I inherited from my mom. I have the machine, a couple of "arms" I guess they are, a reader writer and a programmable card with floppy disks :shock:. I would like to machine embroider and applique, basically just for t-shirts. I have seen some really cute designs that I would like to purchase online. So here goes -

I have no manual, just a VHS tape included....gonna have to work on that, but for now, regardless of my Google abilities, I cannot find instructions for this machine :( I am obviously not the original owner, so I figure I am out of luck with a dealer, if I could even locate one - I live in the sticks.

I know this machine is old, and most of the accessories are outdated. With that being said, is it even possible to do those things I mentioned above, or is it just better if I buy a newer machine for embroidery?

Does the floppy reader even hook up to your computer ? I am thinking the software may be too old to work with a newer computer- You can tinker with what you have but not sure you would have much luck bringing in new designs , sorry

Well, I don't have a floppy reader, but my dad was thinking that there may be some way to transfer to another media. I don't know, I am kind of doubtful. Do you know anything about the machine's abilities? I am sort of thinking that this may be way more hassel than just getting a newer machine. I was just hoping to make it work for me due to the sentimental value.

I bought a external floppy reader for my newer computer, not to expensive at all. A lot of my older designs are on floppy

Gee, I got my Viking Platinum in 2003, and I 'thought' the Rose came out after that. Just didn't think it would be called 'old', but then, I am, so I guess it could be. I'm of the mindset that everything should last and work forever.

I'm with lenette. I bought a Kenmore in 1966 or 67 and it is stll going. I have several other machines but that one is still a good machine.

I have a Viking Rose that my father-in-law gave me when my MIL passed away 2 years ago. The Rose is an older machine...maybe mid-nineties...definitely lacking in many ways. I do have a reader writer (purchased it in order to be able to transfer some embroidery designs from a package I purchased at the LQS). I find it to be very difficult to use...just does not *do* what I want it to do. It is fine for little designs on hand towels, however. To be honest, it has been at least a year since I used the machine so I cannot give you any advice. One of these days I will be trading it in on maybe a Ruby or Diamond. (Our youngest will graduate from college in May...and I cannot think of a better way to use the money we have been putting toward tuition payments!) I would suggest you locate a Viking dealer in your area. Any good dealer should be happy to assist you.

Oh...the reason I don't use it is because I just love my Lily for normal piecing of quilt tops and projects I do. I was really more interested in the beautiful Horn cabinet that came with the Rose!

I have a #1 plus and it does much the same embroidery as the Rose. It will do a 4x4 unless you split the design. I just bought some software and a reader/writer for mine so we'll see how that goes once I get it. Are you wanting the manual to be able to embroider? You should be able to download something from Viking. Go to their website and contact them, they will be able to help you. You can get most everything you need on ebay in terms of feet. I have had good luck getting parts for mine when needed but I seldom need service. These machines were meant to last. I've had mine for 20+ years. One major repair in all that time and it was lightning that took it out. You'll like this machine.

I don't consider
the Rose old. Chk with dealer. I have one that I love for sewing, FMquilting. It makes beautiful decorative stitiches I do craft show). Sews all thread well. It isn't user friendly tho on the embroider part which is why I bought it. Finally bought a $500 embrodery mahcine & upgraded to Brother PE700. The PES format is radily available & lots of freebies on net. I would advise putiing money in embrodery machine only. Chk all brands.com They have good sales & I have good service from them Good Luck

a lot of times you can find the manuals on ebay for these machines. I have a viking #1 which is similar and I see it's manual up there all of the time. Check ebay for just about anything for these old vikings.

Also; go to sewmuch4retirement.com and they have all kinds of things for vikings. I bought a cd for my #1 that has tons of stuff on it.

You are so lucky! The Rose is a great machine - I have had mine for 14 years and I love it. The Rose was still manufactured in Sweden and is a very good quality machine. From what I understand, the designs can be customized using the "Amazing Magic Box" but I haven't tried that yet. I think you can buy design cards on ebay. Also, I think the manual is available online (not sure where). The Rose is also known as the Husqvarna Viking Model 600. Good Luck!

Vikings are very good machines. If I were you - would order manual, contact a viking dealer and order 4D Reader/writer kit. This kit contains a programable card and the reader/writer that converts formats into hus which is your format for the rose. If I can be of further help send message.
