What color sashing?

I am making a Christmas Quilt using the "Dash Away" pattern. I was going for dark and warm and woodsy (Kansas Troubles kind of color scheme) but I'm afraid I got dark and dull. I think the background tan is too dark, but I have 21 of 30 blocks done and it's too late to change it now. I am looking for your opinions on sashing and cornerstones that might help this quilt.
The last photo is of the blocks laid out in Paint, the rest are possible sashings and cornerstones. I am leaning toward tan sashings with red cornerstones or red sashings with gold cornerstones. I will definitely be adding the inner gold border, I think it helps. All of the Fabric (with the exception of the gold) is the 2013 Holly Taylor Christmas collection. It's gorgeous fabric, I just think I planned this thing out wrong, and I would like to do it justice. Opinions and/or suggestions please!

I vote for either photo # 3 or # 6. Number 5 is interesting, kind of subtle, but may be too much the same tone.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 09-10-2013 12:57 PM

I really like the last one with the red.

WTxRed 09-10-2013 12:59 PM

and I like the first one - i think that light contrast not found in the other fabrics is the wow factor! good luck!

annievee 09-10-2013 01:00 PM

I like the one with the red.

Tartan 09-10-2013 01:01 PM

First sashing too light, second sashing too dark, third sashing just right! The last red sashing is nice too. Your blocks are pretty and more contrast with the sashing will be nice.

nena 09-10-2013 01:06 PM

Love the red. Really gives me the Christmas feel.

quilter2theend 09-10-2013 01:30 PM

What about a white on white (if you could find white snowflakes on a white background) with a bright red cornerstones. Have you tried black sashing with a white cornerstone as an idea? I like the skinny outer gold border, but not the green. Sashing and outer border black might make blocks pop a bit more.

I like the last one best!

I like the red with gold.

sewmary 09-10-2013 01:42 PM

Absolutely number 3

suern3 09-10-2013 01:43 PM

I like the last one. The red looks pretty with the blocks, yet doesn't over-whelm the other colors. Very pretty blocks and I love your color choices.

QuiltnNan 09-10-2013 01:47 PM

i prefer #3

starshine 09-10-2013 01:51 PM

#1, 3, or 6. Not at all for #5

ranger 09-10-2013 01:52 PM

The last one gets my vote.

KwiltyKahy 09-10-2013 02:29 PM

I like 3 but the red is nice, too.

calla 09-10-2013 02:38 PM

I like the green sashing as in 2 but with the beige in 3 for the cornerstones......the gold seems bright......but she blocks are nice........calla

debbiemarie 09-10-2013 03:18 PM

The last one, red, it just looks right.

MadQuilter 09-10-2013 03:21 PM

3 and 6 are my favorites.

zozee 09-10-2013 03:22 PM

I also was thinking white . It would really pop those darks as well as draw out those snowy dots.

yngldy 09-10-2013 04:27 PM

IMO, if it were my quilt: #1 the white is too bright and too much, for the rest of the block. If it had a hint of white in the sashing, maybe the red or green for sashing and a thin red and white stripe for the cornerstones, it might blend in, #2 would be ok if you put the white in the cornerstones and border, but put a thin green border, maybe 1.5" between blocks and white border? #3 sashings look good, but I would use the red plaid as border. The last one is nice, but I still think a hint of white would look good somewhere to tie in the snowflakes, and don't use the beige outer border. Use the the gold, then a wider green. How about the red and white thin stripe fabric for a bias binding, bias flange or cornerstones??? It might lighten it up a little without the white being too stark. I like your quilt. It looks cuddly.

Dyan 09-10-2013 04:45 PM

1st red, 2nd green

GKSM 09-10-2013 04:49 PM

Love the red - very Christmassy. Love the brown background along with the green and red.

I agree 3 or 6 look the best with 6 being my fave

Wanabee Quiltin 09-10-2013 05:15 PM

Love the third one and the red one. I think with the right sashing, this will turn out to be quite nice.

Prism99 09-10-2013 05:34 PM

#3 is definitely my favorite. The light tan sashings lighten up the entire quilt, and the red cornerstones add brightness. You might also want to consider quilting within a shiny thread -- maybe even a metallic if your machine can handle it -- to add additional sparkle.

sewmerry 09-10-2013 06:33 PM

#3 and the last one are striking with a balance in contrast.

Cybrarian 09-10-2013 06:43 PM

The gold sashing seems to give the red & green an equal boost. I agree the red sashing is very Christmasy- but IMHO it seems to overwhelm the blocks and you've done a marvelous job on them so you want them to be enhanced not over shadowed I think.

Aria 09-10-2013 07:37 PM

I think I like the third one with the green and red plaid cornerstones.

Jim 09-10-2013 09:50 PM

I really like the last one best. #6 with the red sashing but you may want to use green as cornerstones

joy 09-10-2013 10:26 PM

3 and 5 are nice, particularly no 3.... but please don't use the bright yellow... it kills it...

Akweiland 09-10-2013 10:57 PM

I love the last one!

I like those also. I especially lean toward #3. Perhaps a narrower sashing would be interesting also.

rebeljane 09-11-2013 01:19 AM

I vote for the last one!

JenniePenny 09-11-2013 01:51 AM

If you feel as if the tan background is too dark, how about making 15 new blocks with a lighter tan. Then alternate the 15 new blocks with 15 original blocks. Lay them out alternatively and then you will see a nice (subtle) secondary pattern emerge. So you'll have six original blocks with dark tan left over..... Use them on the back or make a pillow case or a bureau scarf! It still really isn't too late.

SueDor 09-11-2013 02:14 AM

I vote for #3

GG 09-11-2013 02:49 AM

red one looks great

Retired Fire Chief 09-11-2013 02:51 AM

I vote for the red, I think it adds a lot of interest to the blocks.

paoberle 09-11-2013 03:29 AM

I like 3 or 6 the best.

kyquiltlover1942 09-11-2013 03:33 AM

I like the gold color.
