My first quilt was a half square triangle, done totally on my own with a pattern/book titled "quilt in a weekend." It took me 52 weekends! This has bee about 17 or 18 years. It has been used continually on our bed. It is now falling apart. Some of the triangles are frayed beyond repair. I am torn by what to do with it. I am not a real saver (except my quilting "stuff"). Is there a proper burial for a quilt?

I am fairly new at this board, I read and enjoy a lot of the posts I don't often comment. I am sometimes confeused by the acronyms. Is there a post out there to help out?

well... my first thought was can it be cut down/salvaged so that you keep the good part, re-bind it and use as a throw.

also there are lots of messages with the abbreviations, so take some time, read the old messages and ask as needed

I like the idea of making it into a smaller quilt and if you don't have enough salvageable material you can make throw pillows. I have been fortunate enough not to have a quilt burial yet, but I did turn a well loved baby blanket into a pillowcase.

DOn't bury it, just retire it to an nice quilt cupboard or something. It's done it's job for years and needs to rest. Then you will be a vintage quilt collector. YOu can fold it over a chair in the guest room or something. Please don't bury it. ♥

You could make a new top and back, use the old quilt for batting. It would be very warm and you would still know it's keeping you warm.

Can you applique pieces over top of the frayed pieces. I've done that before to repair quilts that have gotten like that or gotten holes in the fabric.
