I've been wanting to do a throw or twin size "inbetween" my other slow going projects. I thought that all of you wonderful quilters could offer some great suggestions. It's been awhile since I've completed a quilt and I'm currently working on some more difficult patterns.

I'm thinking maybe something from Eleanor Burns, or possible rail fence or snowball - nine patch, or ????????

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.... :)

Actually, all of mine have been easy...I just look for the easy patterns, as I just want to relax with quilting, not be SUPER challenged. I love seeing the quilts of you that are really good though!

Regular 9-patch with two colors. I used the floral fabric for the alternating block between the 9-pactches and used a tone-on-tone with sufficient contrast to make the 9-patches stand out. It was fast and looked great.

Rail fence is super easy!

Disappearing 9 patch is fast, easy and looks like you did a lot more work than you did! Very pretty whether you use a few colors, or go for a scrappy look. Also, Lucky Stars by Atkinson Designs is very quick and easy to put together. It also looks good in many different types of fabric, whether batik, calicos, civil war prints.

I can whip all these up (the tops) in an evening.

Cute Tutti Frutti - DD needs a baby quilt for a shower - in 10 days - this should work easily! We'll pick a Focus Fabric from my stash - gather some coordinating fabrics - cut and sew - *with no matching seams! Sounds good!
Thanks for posting.

There is a lot of personal satisfaction in completing a quilt. I find that alternating between more challenging and easy is the best way for me. In fact, my very very simple crib quilts is the easy one for me. I work on some in stages between other projects - such as pin basting a few then later will quilt them, trim the edges and apply binding. They may sit awhile and then I do the binding by hand while watching tv. I often will pick up a new pattern or book that is very easy just to do a new technique. Recently I worked in a few Little Dresses and Boy Shorts to be sent overseas. I learned how to use my serger while doing those, then back to more difficult stuff.

Yellow Brick Road. goes fast.. looks great..

I just made a couple of Downy quilts. the pattern provided was focus fabric squares alternating with 4-patches in matching colors to the focus fabric. They went together so quickly and looked so good. I'm going to make more baby quilts using this pattern. It is very satisfying to make something easy that looks so good.

Regular 'ole scrappy patchwork. Just large squares of different fabrics sewn together... then tied in the center of each square (rather than quilted).

One of the first quilts I ever did was by Terry Atkinson Designs called Yellow Brick Road. Sooo easy and the piecing went together like a glove!

Longarm 06-02-2010 04:25 AM

I took 2 fabrics, one floral and one solid with matching colors, layered them right sides together cut them the same size (I think 3 maybe 3 1/2 inches square) and alternated the pieces as I sewed. Just cut then sewed pieces until it was wide enough then went on to the next row and did the same only starting with the opposite solid or floral for each row. I guess it could be called a 1 patch, I finished the border and bound it with the leftovers.

Turned into a really cute throw.

Was easy and mindless when I wanted something simple to work on. The best part I could lay it aside for days or weeks at a time and didn't have to do a lot of thinking of "where was I?" when I went back to it.

I guess I have to say the Skull quilt I made my son. It just kinda went together on its own.

Andi 06-02-2010 10:36 AM

Anything by Eleanor Burns is pretty easy because she makes the instructions so easy to follow. My second quilt was from one of her books and it was a single Irish chain!
