We've heard several funny stories recently from Quilter's who have basted their quilts to the carpet or have sewn their blouse into their projects. What is your funny quilting story?

My friend and I were pinning a baby quilt on a card table that had a vinyl top. When we started to take the quilt off, it wouldn't move. We had pinned through the vinyl top! We learned a lesson that day.

I have a friend who is a longarm quilter. She loaded a customer quilt on her frame and was humming and quilting along. Unfortunately, a miller moth lit on the back on the quilt as she was stitching and she quilted it right through it into the back of the quilt. She of course didn't see it until she advanced the quilt. It took a little picking out and cleaning up, but everything turned out OK (probably not the moth's opinion).

When my quilting friend and I first accidentally wandered into one of our favorite LQS years ago, we were standing there with our mouths hanging open when a sweet (perceptive) clerk commented, "Oh I see you've never been here before!" My friend leaned over and whispered, "We're not in (national chain store) anymore!!"

we were all together quilting on a quilt retreat when one of the girls said she couldn't find her seam ripper. I offered to let her use one of mine. I pulled it out - sure enough it was hers. I don't know how it got in my case

Several years ago I was at an auction at an auction house that sold abandoned stuff from storage units. There was a large brown plastic bag in the mix that had a small 1930's postage stamp type piece of patchwork on the top. The bidding was active but I won the big and got the bag with the quilt top.
I took it home and put in the garage until I ould sort through the bag. A few days later a neighbor was in the garage and asked where the bad smell was coming from, that it smelled like garbage. I opened the plastic bag and sure enough it was a bag of garbage with the quilt on the top.

Talk about false advertising.

I was a rather ambitious newbee quilter and decided that a lone star would be a good beginner option. I cut all those bias cuts, laid all the tiers out and sewed like there was no tomorrow. It did seem a little odd at the time but I kept moving on. Not til I had to put the big star wedges together did I notice that my color wave did NOT radiate from the center out, but INSTEAD I had it radiating into each point. Still have not finished that piece.

That's not a mistake, it's a design element.

I totally agree! The part I didn't mention (coz it wasn't funny) was that the corner pieces got waaaaay off because my angles were so wonky.
