I was literally in the last few inches of meandering the border of a baby quilt before FINALLY being able to put it aside for squaring up the quilt to bind it...and before starting the quilting on her twin brother's quilt...and I was so excited and into the zone and ready to be done....

I was just ZOOMIN' along with eyes on the much-longed-for last 2" of empty space left when SLAM....sewed right through the head of a safety pin! (see pictures)

I am going to save the needle and safety pin, tape it to a sheet of paper that says SLOW DOWN and attach it to the wall to remind me to focus and, well, slow down!!

Needless to say, I decided not to finish the last 2" and figure I'm gonna be squaring it up and binding it anyway so...

wow, what kind of a needle is that! I can't believe it didn't break!

 I can't believe that the needle went threw the pin like that. Kind of cool but at least you didn't ruin the quilt.

i can't believe it didn't break either! usually when I hit a straight pin, the needle breaks, but not this time

I just use the schmetz needles for machine work - these were size 11 - I'd expect it to survive this kind of encounter if it was a size 16 or 18, but totally surprised my sz 11 didn't break!!

there is one small hole in the top, but it will most likely be cut off when I square up the quilt adn then put the binding on - I am SO thankful it happened on the very bottom corner of the border!

You are very lucky it didn't break and fly up into your eyes, that would have been awful

Oh my goodness!
It so would have broke the needle if it were me!
WOW!

Oh my  Thank God it was not the tip of one of your fingers. Believe it or not in my days when I used to sew alot and had long nails I got one of my nails sewn into my work like that. It was not easy getting my finger out from under the needle, lost the nail.

Wow i am shocked too that it didnt break!

Wow what a needle! I race when I'm nearly done too. Cutting (let's hurry and get started already!) and binding (why is this taking so long, I want it to be DONE!) are not my friends.
