don't you just love how often sellers of sewing machines only provide pictures of the back? I don't see that with "guy" tools.

Don't know, but from the top it sure looks like the one I learned to sew on. Circa late 40's. Sewed well and made the most beautiful buttonholes ever.

It is a Kenmore sewing machine. I am not sure but I think they were made in the 50s.

It's a rotary type model from Kenmore. I love vintage machines, but these are my least favorite. They tend to be very limited in my experience. They're pulley driven and are kind of cool, but the brown finish and shape of the machine are visually a real turn off to me...I had one and gave it away.

That looks like the machine I learned to sew on. I inherited it from my mom. It was sold by Sears--Kenmore and Janome are made by the same company, but I don't know if they were at the time that machine was made. They are very heavy and I'm guessing that it was made in the l940's.

I'm with Candace. They were made by White for Sears. It is not the most attractive machine that's for sure! I won't buy pulley driven machines simply because I think a lot of the power is wasted and it is a PITA to find and replace the pulley. I could be lazy, but that is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Years ago, when my Grandmother passed away, Dad and my Aunt were looking for a new home for Grandma's old Kenmore. I didn't take it....none of my cousin's wanted it either....That old machine was a PITA and drove my Grandma crazy...why would we want to take it home?
She was eventually sold at an estate sale for almost nothing....

I had a similar model in a cabinet, built in 1948. I serviced it, went over the cabinet with some Howards Refinisher, and sold it for $35 a few months ago. It was a solid straight stitcher with all the attachments and a copy of the manual. It ran really well after I oiled it up and refilled the grease tubes. But they just aren't attractive and don't sell well even if they are in good shape.
