What makes a quilt a quilt??? Is it the size? Is it anything that's quilted? Have always been curious. When I think of a quilt I think of something I cover up with but I see table runners, wall hangings, doll blankets, etc. classified as quilts. Clear up my muddled mind. :|

I think of a quilt as something that you cover with also. However, there are all kinds of quilted items, which would include table runners, wall hangings, totes, hot pads, etc. At least that's my thinking on it.

maybe this definition from the dictionary will help you. "Join together (layers of fabric or padding) with lines of stitching". I guess what you do with it after that, is up to the individual.

I think that the word "Quilt" is a noun AND a verb. A quilt (noun) is something that you cover yourself with. "To Quilt" a verb, is what DebraK said!
So it's a bed quilt or a quilted table runner. |
From Dictionary.com
noun 1. a coverlet for a bed, made of two layers of fabric with some soft substance, as wool or down, between them and stitched in patterns or tufted through all thicknesses in order to prevent the filling from shifting. 2. anything quilted or resembling a quilt. |
I think of a quilt as something used as a cover. Other thing's as quilted items of clothing or decorations.

I, "Queen of Dictionary usage", never ONCE gave a thought toward checking the dictionary for a definition. DUH! What would we do without the Board.
