Wow QuiltE thank-you, thank-you, so much. Your mathematical equations do make sense to me. Divisible by three..., well I'm off to make a sample using the last example.

I guess I'm in a February mood to use red's and cream colors. I love the optical illusion of a curved block and realize there are probably oodles of layouts too.

I wonder if this is a vintage block pattern?

Thank-you Quilterdale for posting this thread, I just finished a "Checkered Dresden Plate" and was wanting to start another quilt then viola this pattern is fantastic!

GramE yes, I agree w/ you about it being the same.

Thank you OnaEmtNest!!!!
Your reds and creams will make a nice quilt and what a great way to use up an assortment of fabrics.
You had asked about the snowballs .... Sorry, I forgot to answer that.
They will be the same square of whatever width you go with for your strips.

I'll look forward to seeing your Valentine's version of Mirror Mirror! :)

However, what I would really like to see right now would be your Checkered Dresden Plate.
Could you please give me a link? Thanks!

Thanks Kassaundra for confirming.
I have been really taken by this block .... not that I need another project (or six!) :)

QuiltE ~
Thanks for the snowball corner clarification. The Checkered Dresden Plate is a Jenny Doan Tutorial. I'd never made Dresden plates, always wanted to. It was super easy, mine I used an array of Fall fabrics. I will let you know when I get it back from my Longarm Guy.

Here's the link to MSQ tutorial... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbESQ4vMOiI

AND it's people like YOU too Ms. SandyinZ4 that also make this board such a resource of inspiration and knowledge!

OneEmtNest ... Thanks for the link. Now that I have had a sneak preview. you have me even more anxious to see yours. Especially being that I happen to like fall colours the best! :) Again, sorry I missed the snowballs first time round and glad it helped. Now you have me waiting to see your first block. Of course, you have nothing to do right now, as you wait for your Longarm Guy!! :)

Great Sherlock Holmes'ing!!!! :)

I don't think there are any extra rows, as QuiltnNan suggests.
Only that the alternate blocks are done in reverse colour/fabric placement.

Whereas Quilterdale's photo has every block (group of four smaller blocks) the same
and when they come together, that incredible secondary pattern shows up.

Does anyone agree with me?

I agree, it has 3 rows to each block with 4 blocks connecting to form the design. The red and white quilt has the colors alternating in the blocks but she has another picture showing the colors all alike in the blocks which I like better.
