Is anyone here familiar with shot cotton?

Do you know anything about the weight or feel of the fabric?

From looking at pictures on the internet, it appears to be a fairly lightweight fabric with a loose weave. Is it?

Any knowledge of this fabric would be appreciated. TIA

you will find an explanation of shot cotton. I have never purchased any, but from this explanation it seems to be mainly for visual effect. Hope this helps. Brenda C

Also found this: 'These fabrics are woven using cotton thread which is dyed in small batches. Variations in color and small imperfections in the weaving are a natural part of the process, and to be expected. Tonal warp and weft create soft and subtle color effects.'
Now that I've seen a picture I realize I've used this before. It feels like regular very good quality quilting cotton, maybe a little tighter and silkier, at least the ones I've had. Very lovely and sort of glows when you move it around because you get a glimpse of the contrasting warp or weft thread.
I don't know if they come in different qualities or weights, but if it's the Kaffe Fassett collection you're looking at, I would trust it absolutely. The quality has always been wonderful in my experience. I love his collections.

Kaffe Fassett shot cottons are fabulous! Easy to work with and so beautiful. They light up a quilt.

It sort of reminded me of Oxford cloth for shirts.

Thanks so much for the help. I had researched it online but couldn't tell about the weight or feel. It looked sort of gauzy to me in some of the pictures and I was afraid it is not really right for a quilt, but now it sound like it might be fine.

The Kaffe Fassett Shot Cotton collection is wonderful- some colors do not have the warp and the weft as two colors- but most do. They are on the lighter weight side, but as made for the quilter. I have found if I use starch (iron and spray with heavy starch) the fabric behaves a much better- and is much easier to work with. They sparkle on the quilt- really are the best solids I have found. Wash nicely super soft!
