Just a thought....

What is bar tack? Another newbie here...

Bar Tack is when you zigzag in one place to form a tack (tie). You lower your stitch length, set your zigzag and go back and forth a few times. I do the whole quilt (baby size) and then cut the threads.

Happy Quilting.

When tieing a baby quilt the only thing to not use is Yarn
For some reason it comes untied easier than threads and can be easily swallowed and cause breathing problems. I have always used emb. thread, but pearl cotton works too. My grandmother used pearl cotton of some kind of cotton crochet thread and hers are still together.

I've used most everything. I've also used the 1/16, 1/8, and 1/4" satin ribbon to coordinate with the quilt.

I used to tie,now I use my fancy stitches on my machine, the delicate ones, and just spot one around. make sense?

I have cut very thin strips of the quilt fabric and pulled it through with an embroidery needle and then tied it off with a thorough knot.

If you bar tack (just a couple of zig zags) down the yarn or perle cotton, the tie cannot come loose and hurt the baby.

I do this too. It would be safer on a baby quilt. I have one that looks like a little star, but a little pearl buttonhole works well too.

I do that too - or one repeat of a design like a snowflake or a flower, if your machine has that.

I don't tie, I use a star pattern on my machine and go to the interections and do a pattern, star, bear, tree, pony, etc. It works and is a lot easier than doing all the tying. Jan
