I am trying to make my own twister ruler. I do not have a 3 1/2" square. I do have a 5 1/2" and a 6 1/2 " Square.
What size blocks would you use if you are using a 6 1/2 twister ruler? Would 5" work? or would you need to make your blocks bigger? Would the border still be 3"?

with my 6½ ruler I used 10" blocks with 6½ border and it was tight but did not come up short on any. use 10½ and 6½ border and you should have lots of room. I marked my ruler 1" from each edge...

I would break out the basic algebra for this one..
The 3 1/2" ruler uses 5" squares....

3.5 = 6.5 (or size of your ruler)
--- ----
5 x

multiply the 5 x 3.5 and divided by 6.5 will give you the size of the block you will need :)

I got 9.28 so 9 1/4" should do the trick.
You can do the same with the border sizes as well if they are different.

edited... I see that my spacing is a bit off when it shows up on the board. sorry guys - fractions - 3.5 over 5 = 6.5 over x. :D

I forgot to also say that you can do that also where to place your cross lines on the larger sized square as well... distance from corner over size of original block = x over size of new block - and repeat that for all four sides if need be. I haven't looked at the measurements for how to mark the squares but that's what I was going to do... one of these days...

So if you were going for the smaller ruler to use with 5" blocks, you would use a 3.5" ruler and mark the lines 1/2" from the corner????

I'm just saying that the ratio should be the same to get the same look. If you followed the directions for the 3/5" template for putting the start and stops for your line markings on a larger one, the ratio would be off - does that make sense? In my head it does but I'm not sure if I'm saying it right.
