I've been bouncing around all over the place, finding SOOOO many cool patterns I want to make. Trying to pick my next project. I wondered what size quilt you all typically tend to make. Table runners? Wall hangings? Bed quilts? Lap quilts? Miniature quilts?
Inquiring minds would love to know. Trina p.s. For me, it seems that quilting isn't only a hobby, it's a sickness!! |
I prefer lap size (approx. 50 x 65 or so). Simply because they can also be
used as stunning wallhangings and will be seen by more of your visitors, than a bed quilt ???? |
Large Lap size quilts. They are almost twin. I give this size a lot for wedding gifts and such. Something big enough for 2 people to cuddle under on the couch.
I like the size of 75"x75". Most of my quilts are show quilts, so the quilt does not have to fit on a bed.
Baby and toddler quilts and lap sized quilts are the ones I have a tendency to make the most of -- only because they have been requested or are made as gifts for acquaintances. I am fairly new at machine quilting, and those sizes are easier to get through my machine without feeling like I'm wrestling a grizzly bear!!  I have made a couple of twin and full sized quilts for school auctions, but mostly I'm reserving bed sized quilts for myself and my mother.
My lap sized quilts are sometimes big enough for two people (for wedding gifts), or in the case of my sweetie who is 6' 2", it will completely cover him from his chin right on past his tootsies!
most of my quilts are queen size...once in a while (special order only) i make a king size...once in a while i make a kids quilt, but mostly i make queen size.
I make mostly baby, toddler and large lap to twin. Not too many bed quilts.
My quilts are around 80 - 85 inches. As big as I can fit in my floor frame, anyway.
I like to make 50 X 72 or 60 X 72 for adults and I make a lot of baby/toddler quilts too :D:D:D
I make mostly bed size quilts.
I like making wall hangings, lap quilts, and table runners because I have a short attention span and get bored too easily so I want to make something that I can actually finish...LOL
I make my quilts to fit the top of my double bed so it's about 54" x 74".
Mine are never the size the pattern suggests. Twin-ish or Double-ish. When someone asks me how big the quilt will be, I have to say "I'll know when it's finished" and that is a sad truth.

I like to do the lap sizes but if I am going to gift a quilt, birthday, anniversary, etc., then I'll go all out and do a King. Size really does matter!!

I do a lot of baby quilts by request, and I love to make queen size quilts for weddings. For a birthday or a just because gift, I make a "generous" couch quilt, which is more of a full size.
I go by my husband, he's 6'4" and if it completely covers him up and it's wider than his arm-span, that's the size I usually finish at. |

If I'm using a pattern I try to do twin or larger. If I'm just using a block and making up my own pattern they usually wind up being queen size. I have done a few king size, however, and a few baby quilts but the last baby quilt I made was 60 x 60. I guess I don't do anything small (lol).
I make all sizes, but I guess wall hangings and runners or toppers are what I make the most for they are usually given as gifts.
I envy all of you queen size quilters! My projects are usually very similar in size to the oversized lap quilts mentioned above...just under a twin and smaller. I make many more small projects in between though, I get bored quickly and have to be REALLY in love to continue on with a big project and actually get it finished.
I'm new to quilting, but I've made baby quilts and lap quilts the most. I wish I could quit my day job and quilt all day! :-)
I usually do crib size for all the babies and lap size, sometimes I do make more rows if I feel it is too small.

Large lap quilts - 65x85 - I like to be able to snuggle right up and be totally covered and wrapped like a burrito lol. I have made a smaller lap (45x65) for my very..."vertically challenged" Grandmother ;)
most are baby/crib size, some are lap quilts.
Bed size quilts, mostly queen size.

Hahahahaa, I thought I was the only one who used a tall person as a size guide! I'm tall and I hate cold feet, so I tend to make 'longer' quilts. Most are either a generous twin or queen size. Now, having said that, right now I have a monster King size on the frame that I'm going to add the borders to after the center is done! (it didn't fit on the frame if I added them first) |
lap quilts 50x65 and big twins 102x 80

My smallest was 85x95, largest 106x106. I have only made bed size quilts.
I prefer full/queen although I make large laps as well (60x60/72)

I make mine about 65 x75 which is lap or twin size.. We have a king size bed so I lay the quilt across the center of the bed and let the bedspread be the side and cover the pillows. These are easier, cheaper and quicker.

Til I get my sewing room built next summer, I am sticking to lap quilts, table runners and wall hangings. It's getting pretty hard to wade through my bedroom/craft room!
I try to make mine a very practical size to suit the occasion. I have no storage so most of mine are made to fit a bed and be used. Small house, no wall space. Small ones just get stuck in a closet.
I make all sizes but lots of baby quilts and throws. If for my kids they want King sizes but we have lots of throw sizes for the 4 grandsons
Mostly queen size.
