What size should blocks should I cut for a four patch? please help

I have cut 5" strips for the final boarder on a quilt and want to put a four patch in each corner of the binding on the quilt. I have used four different fabrics in the quilt. I know some where it tells me how to cut these? How big do I need to cut a block so I can do this?

try 2.75 each and make one up and see if it matches the 5 inch strip.

So you want your 4-patch to be the same finished size as your border (which is 4.5"). Cut each square of your 4-patch at 2.75"

2 3/4" should finish to 5". 2.75 + 2.75=5.5-.5 for a seam+5 inches. 2 3/4 it is.

if the border strips are already cut at 5", then they will finish at 4.5". if you are putting a 4patch in the corner, it will also have to finish at 4.5". thus, each patch will have to finish at 2.25". adding the seam allowance back to the finished size, each patch should be cut at 2.75". i hope that helps

Thanks so much from all of you. I could not think for some reason. It worked the way you all told me. I kept thinking there was a better way by sewing a block with another block and cutting to get two half of the blocks i needed and that kept me from know how to. I cut the little blocks individual and it worked out. Thanks girls again. Suzanne

If you had needed more than a few, then it'd been easy to strip piece them. You still could. 2.75 X 11 strips. Sew together in pairs, cut at 2.75" and flip so each 4P has all four fabrics.
