What size????
I am in the process of making my first quilt top and I need to know what finished size is a quilt supposed to be? I realize it depends what you are using it for.

Quilts are supposed to be whatever size you want it to be. |

any size you want- some people make miniture quilts (pot holders or even coaster size) some people make huge extra large king sized quilts- and every size in between- make your quilt the size you want it to be-for what you plan to use it for- if you have a queen bed & want a quilt for your bed make a queen- if your friend is expecting and you want to make the new baby a quilt make it a baby quilt---its up to you what size you want to make your quilt.

Thank you for the help

For a first quilt top, it's wise to stay around lap quilt size -- a width of about 52-68 inches, and a length of about 52-78 inches. This will make it easier to stuff under the arm of your sewing machine while you machine quilt. Even if you decide to hand quilt, it's a good idea to keep that first project about this size so you don't feel too bogged down in terms of time needed for the quilting.

That would be my suggestion as well. I do my lap quilts 44x54 to fit Thermore batting, or narrower so I don't have to piece the back.

I agree, make whatever size you want. Not hard to know a larger quilt will take more time than a smaller one.
Welcome from Missouri and to this board, you will love it. |

quilts can be any size. it kind of depends on what it will be used for, like baby quilts, dolls quilt, king size bed quilt...
