I have my Accuquilt Go!, and I see that others are busy cutting their scraps up for future scrap quilts. I just can't seem to decide what shapes and sizes to cut. Seems to me 1-1/2" or 2" strips would be useful for a future log cabin scrap quilt (I like log cabin designs), but I can't seem to imagine beyond that.

What are your favorite shapes and sizes to cut for use in future scrap quilts?

I do a lot with 2.5 and 4.5 strips or pieces.

I haven't been cutting mine into a particular size. I'll make that decision when I decide on a pattern and am ready to make it.

I do not cut mine up at all, as sure as eggs, I would need it as is! Murphy's Law! I colour co-ordinate my fabrics though and put all of one particular fabric together, no matter what size or shape I have left of it. That way I know exactly where the last scraps of say a particular favourite is. I keep flannels separate. I do not keep really tiny pieces as I do not have the room but I do manage to use up most of my scraps in the end!

I usually do not cut until I am ready to start a scrapopy project. Keep mine by color.

out of my scraps, i cut what i can get, a 2 1/2" strip, then (2) 3 1/2" square, and a 5" square, rest goes back into the scrap basket for other usage or tossed if not much left

I like 2 1/2 inch strips and 5 inch squares.
If I cant cut those shapes I will cut into whatever fits the scrap.

I leave mine as is. The scrap quilts I make most often takes two 4 inch squares and one 5 inch square for each block so when I cut ahead that's what I cut. That particular pattern is the one I use for twin size girl quilts. I use different patterns for boys.

I took the scrap therapy class and she recommended to cut scraps into squares: 2", 3 1/2" & 6 1/2". Her rationale is that if you make a 4-square block and use the 2" squares, that block would equal 3 1/2". If you do that 4-square pattern and use 3 1/2" squares, that would equal a 6 1/2" unfinished block. I also like 5" - nickel sqyares so I have some of them in my plastic shoe boxes. But, I don't usually cut up useable yardage into the squares, I only reuse scraps. The fact that I make a lot of scrappy quilts means I usually have a lot of scrappy squares to work with. And....she pointed out that you pay as much for the fabrics in your scrap pile as for the ones actually used in quilts....so now you're getting something for nothing. I have made 10 scrap therapy quilts using only those pieces I would have thrown away if I were in a fit to clean out my quilt studio.
