Recently someone mentioned putting a stop border on her quilt. This is new terminology to me. Will someone explain it, please?

craftybear 05-31-2010 08:13 PM

do you remember where you saw it? Maybe we can figure it out if we could read the thread.

A stop border is just a narrow inner border that is placed between the body of the quilt and a wider outer border.

when working on a recent round robin, i had to put a 'stop-border' on the medalian before i could add my border...it was necessary because the border before mine was busy and needed to be 'stopped' before my additions could be added

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It bugged me that I could not find it in my reference books, and no one local could tell me what it was. Now I know what it is, and realize that I have actually used one without realizing what it was.

Oh, I can see how that would break up the busyness. Frame the picture with a small border before the final Frame .

I have just put one on my latest quilt and had no idea that it actually had a name!! Always love to learn a new term in quilting.

Consider it as "stop the eye" as a design element

fireworkslover 06-02-2010 05:03 AM

Ha ! I've been using these for many quilts and didn't know it had a special name!

winia 06-02-2010 05:34 AM

Dear Debbie: Nothing to do with quilting. I absolutely love your avatar. :-D
