What is this?

My friend found this in a scrap basket of Christmas fabric someone gave her. Does anyone know what it is? It almost looks like a cozy, but the diameter is quite small. Just thought somebody may have made something like this at one time or another. Thanks.

Is it sewn anywhere? Can you show us?
|
Maybe a hot coffee holder
|
Looks like a thread catcher to me.

My guess, too. The wings on the right side might be "handles". |
Will it fit vin and over amug for pockets mug organiser
. |
Im thinking thread catcher too. the flap fits under the sewing machine and holds the catcher in place in front of the sewing machine.

Looks a lot like the base square for cathedral window block, although I would not have used a print fabric. Maybe that's why it was in the trash.
|
I have not a clue!!!!!
|
Opened up, I have no idea wat it is, but all folded up, it reminds me of a paper fortune teller made out of fabric.
|
I'm not sure but I have seen coasters where the base of the wine glass slips into the openings of the squares and then the glass, when it is being used, always has a coaster.
|
I sure does look like a cathedral window base!! Interesting choice for fabric...wonder if the center was going to be a solid?

Machined cathedral window. OR.... a hat for a borrower or elf or pixie or fairy
|
It's a wine glass coaster. The base of the glass fits into the coaster so that it doesn't leave rings on the furniture.
|
I think it's a part of a cathedral window quilt. It looks like a piece of the background that you would use to sew the square into.
|
I believe it's a coaster.

Perhaps that is why it was in with the scraps. They started making it and forgot how to finish it. The thread catcher is usually a triangle, but I did see one recently that was a square. |
I thought coaster, also, but they are usually made with three different fabrics, not one.

Maybe it was meant to hold a Christmas candle?

That was the first thing I was shown how to do almost two years ago by a lady here. They are coasters to use either flat or put a glass inside if it will fit at the bottom. I have some of them around here somewhere that she gave me back than and I use them for such when I happen upon one.
|
I'll bet it was a mistake and that's why it was discarded .
|
My first thought was thread catcher.

It sure looks like a wine coaster to me - the round bottom of the wine glass stem fits into the center (the flaps go over the round part) and the "coaster" portion sticks out around it. Hope this helps.

Can you see the similarity. This is a cathedrel window 4 squares.
|
An experiment that didn't make it?

My guess is that it is a wine glass coaster that did not come out as the original person sewing it intended. I would put a wine glass in the center see if that is what it is.

Looks like someone made a fabric Cootie Catcher. You made them out of paper years ago to tell fortunes.
|
Is it an egg cozy? Can't really tell if it is that small.
|
To me it looks like a childhood game made from fabric rather than paper.
When I was a child we had a paper game that liiked like that. fingers were put under the triangles and your partner would call out a number 1-4 and then the fingers were moved back and forth to that number. this wa repeated 3 times, flip the inside courner out and a message was displayed. a silly fun pass time for kids great memmories

It might be a failed attempt at making an origami ornament or some kind of origami shape.
