I currently am using Mettler thread for piecing and quilting (except one that I used embroidery thread by accident). The Mettler is about $6.70 for a spool, which adds up. Does anyone recommend a thread that is just as good but cheaper? Thanks.

I use mettler/isacord for emb too.
I just use regular sewing thread to piece with. |
I use Coats and Clarks 100% mercerized cotton in the 1200 yard spools. I buy it at JoAnn's when they have their half price sale. I usually buy several spools in shades of ecru and gray. I've heard other people say they don't like C&C but it works just fine for me.

I really like Robinson Anton thread. I buy it on-line in 3,000 yd spools (50 wt)cotton. It runs me about $4.33 per 1,000 yds. It does not lint like most other cotton threads I've used. I use it to piece and quilt.

I like Robinson Anton thread and have lot of the big cones. I use Connecting Threads Essentials thread the most. It's on sale now too so I stocked up on the cones for piecing. The thread sets are very nice and my machine likes it.

Does that Essential thread lint much? It's very reasonable in the large cones.

Wow, I just looked at connecting threads. I cannot believe how much cheaper it is and you get more than twice on a spool than I was getting before.

When linting became a real issue for me, I tried Presencia and loved it...thin, strong, and virtually lintless.
