For me, I think it's between 9 pm and 1 am.
early in the morning. I am usually up by 6:00 am and get some sewing in before anything else. Also like to sew in early afternoon, after every thing else gets done. , but if an idea hits me, I might be up all night working, can't sleep until I work what ever it is out.
Late at night as well for me, everything quiets down and everyone else is usually sleeping and I just let it rip. I am not so much a morning person like Ninnie, It is hard to find people to play with at that time though. I am not sure why?
I have found as the seasons change so does my schedule...not much for sewing in the hottest part of the day so mornings/evenings in the spring/summer and afternoons and evenings in the fall/winter.
I like to sew when DH is watching sports or cowboy movies. That is usually late afternoon or evening. |
I get the most sewing done in the
early afternoon to about dinner time. If I am really on a roll, I will sew some, after dinner!! :D :D :D :D :D :D |
I'm an early riser, so I may sew some at that time then stop for chores, errands, etc. I'm usually sewing again after noon until 4PM or so when I will fix a meal.
I usually sew at night.
It's calm in the house. Nothing needs to be done and I can hide away. Sometimes I forget the time and greet the sun coming up. oops! lol |
Afternoon for me.....I have to get other things done first
For me it varies according to the time of year. In the summer, it is in the afternoon when it is usually too warm to do much outside. I guess that is why I have not done much sewing this summer...it has been way cooler here in IN than normal. During the school year, I sew in the early evening. I have to be careful because I tend to say to myself that I'll just sew a little longer and the next thing I know, I'm up way too late. As a kdg teacher, I have to be on top of things all day long, so I really try to get to bed at a decent time.
At night while watching TV and early mornings on the weekends. When I really need a sewing fix I take a vacation day from work and devote the whole day to quilting.
For me its between 5AM and 1 Ken's at work then

I work full time so i sew for a few hours in the evening, but Sunday is my main sewing day.
I quilt in either mid-morning when I feel best, or later after my medically necessary long nap(2+hrs) when I feel better too. DH and I have come up with a great little routine, almost daily. When he comes home from work, he plays with our happy-to-see him puppy, then he relaxes at the piano and I quilt while enjoying his music. That's such a great 15-30min! My main problem is that with my stupid health I can never plan on a day of quilting since how I feel each day is unpredictable. Yesterday, I couldn't quilt at all. I'm going to try now when I sign off before something goes wrong. It's fun and very satisfying to see even a little creative progress made.
I always have a hand piecing or applique project on the go, whatever else I am making by machine, and I get most sewing done on those in the evenings, in fron of the TV. I can convince myself that TV time isn't wasteful if I'm quilting too!
With my machine made projects, it's just at the weekends I work on those and I'm an early morning person too. |
On weekday, it's evenings after work and dinner. On weekends, I usually start around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and continue through til bedtime.
I sew whenever the moods strikes so I don't have a set time. One thing I love about getting older, I do what I want when I want. :D
Well, after reading all the replies, and going me? not me? finally decided, I too am an unpredictable sewer, depending on body.
But, I seem to sew MOST, on a good day, after breakfast and housework. I finally realized, that if i walk into home-cave and switch machine on, then sewing is going to take place. If I don't switch it on soon, I will end up distracted messing and gauming with all kinds of stuff in there, but no stitches get made. I feel especially good after putting a few miles, or even a quarter mile, on my machine. :D |
Machine: 8pm-midnight . . . after the kids go to sleep. I try to do some hand-quilting or applique if I can a few days a week. My boys are 3 & 5 so it's hard to get uninterrupted time during the day.
If I go to bed at a nice normal hour, instead of watching television until 2am, I get up nice and early and get lots of things done, and not just quilting either. It makes me feel so great. I have been in my sewing room as early as ten minutes before 7 in the morning.
If I have a day off it's late morning and early afternoon ( before DGD comes home). If it's a workday it's late at night.
Mainly evenings and some on the weekends.
Afternoons and into the evening. If hubby gets to be a wee bit under foot, I'll go get one of his favorite movies and pop it into the player, sit with him until the movie gets rolling and then I'll head to my sewing room. He never even misses me then. Or find a channel that has car stuff. It's really great when NASCAR has something going like races. I can hear hubby in the living room cheering some driver on. I'm happy and he is happy. Then it's sew and sew and sew.
I work full time also, so usually in the evening as I'm preparing dinner I work in a few stitches. Then while it's still light late I will sew after dinner until about 8pm - 8:30pm.
If I don't work on Sat. at my husbands store I will sew after house cleaning and preparing meals for the week. |
With DH retired, a grand daughter who sews with me, the only time I really get to do my own thing in the sewing room is when GD is in school and I go on strike as far as cooking, laundry, or house cleaning. LOL
As I get older and until I get my ott floor lamp, I do my actual hand quilting during the day so I can see better. I use to sew at night too, but have to get that ott light.
I work outside the home 3 days a week so most of my sewing is done in the evenings. Especially Sunday evenings, DH is a pastor and runs the college group on Sunday nights. I am home alone and usually try to spend it sewing, or here on the computer.

For me it is after the kids are in bed, so between 8-9:30pm and during naps on the weekend. If I try to do it when they are awake, I have two little "helpers" and lose half my pieces!
If I work using a sewing machine, I tend to do them at night or on a weekend. If I am hand-sewing the blocks, then I tend to do them while riding the light rail train to work.
If I have a project "calling" me - forget the housework, I'm sewing!
I get the most sewing done early in the morning. I get up around 6 or 6:30 and get some done before going to work.
Between 8 pm and 2 am. I MEAN to go to bed at a reasonable time, but it is just so difficult to stop. Just one more stitch turns into two more hours!!
I'm an evening quilter, after I get home from work. It helps me to unwind and forget the nonsense of the day I encountered at work. On the weekends, though, it's sunrise to bedtime. :)
Rarely in the am. Generally the afternoon and then late into the nite.
I'm usually quilting between noon - 4pm. I scramble getting things done in the morning, then Desperate Housewives comes on at noon for two hours, then two hours of Little House on The Praire.... lol!!!
Then off to make dinner, and hang out with DH. :-) |
i'm a late night person if i get into doing a project an can't stop like some material a good friend found that was part of her mom stash it was remnants from one of the clothing factories an this stuff has got to be almost as old as i am. i washed it an have about 2/3of it cut in strips for either log cabin or pineapple quiltmight be enough for one of both.
I'm with Terri and Neil (Diamond that is). Thank the Lord for the nighttime, forget the day!
