I am curious --- what type of batting does everyone prefer?
I'm finishing up a quilt for my niece's little boy. I'm debating whether to use warm & natural, or a regular 4 oz. poly batting. I will probably do both FMQ as well as tying. I've used both types of batting in the past. I've found for tying, the 4 oz poly works good and if I do any type of FMQ the warm and natural works really good and I don't have the problem with bearding of the batting. What do all of you do?

Mostly I use Warm & Natural. I recently bought some Hobbs 80/20 - haven't used it yet, but it feels ok. I also really like Quilter's Dream, but only buy it when it's on sale or for a special project. I love the Dream Orient and would use that more ofen, but it is now way out of my price range.

I like the 20/80.

I like Hobb's 80/20 a lot and use it most of the time. I usually prewash it (soak in washing machine, rinse and spin - no agitating) and then dry it on my dining room table. Fairfield also has a 80/20 but it's quality isn't a good as Hobb's.

I like a good poly for baby and kids quilts. I like these quilts to be light weight. Also I feel these quilts will get a lot of washing and drying and poly works best for that. Recently heard good things about Hobb's Poly, haven't seen it available in local shops so I ordered a queen size batt with my last order from Connecting Threads.

Quilters Dream is a dream, more expensive but I've used it for 'special' quilts.

I use 80/20 mostly.

I use poly in kids quilts, its more durable.

depends on the project- my all time favorite batting is dream wool- but i reserve that for special quilts- i use dream poly- dream bamboo- warm & natural, hobbs heirloom 80/20,
many different ones- there is no one batting i always go to- i decide with each quilt what the right batt for that one is.

I use several brands..
Hobbs, W/N, Legacy is the latest.

80/20
50/50
100% cotton
poly
and black is 80/20

Each has its place. With the upswing on the pricing of batting I have had to shop around.

I use Quilters Dream Blend (70/30). It says it was made especially for machine quilting and you can quilt up to 12" apart.

Ditto, I think my favorite is Hobbs 80/20. It washes really nicely and has a great cuddly feel to it. But I like W&N when I'm doing a dense stitch and after it's washed it has a whole new kind of texture, I like the shrunken look on it. But like everyone says it depends on what you're going for.
