I am seeing a lot of these on Ebay when I look at (and keep bidding on) quilt fabrics.

Are they decorations for quilts?

You Can use you-yos for decorations. or sewn together into placemats. quilt tops or as floral shapes in another quilt. there are lots of ways to use yo yos . do a search and you will find a few threads on here about them as well

There is a whole host of things to do with Yo-Yo's. They are used in alot of applique quilt designs as well. I believe this months issue of Fons and Porter have a pattern in there for making the Basket block, and then using the yo-yo's as the flowers, very cute. It may be this months issue of Better Homes and Garden. They are great for added embellishments for quilts, especially if you like applique, and/or 3-D type quilts. You can make your own and at various sizes. They are just alot of fun to play with. You can use various embellishments for the center of each flower, from seed beads, to buttons, to novelty buttons. Once you click into your imagination and creativity the ideas are endless. try it. I'm presently working on a country bumpkin type applique angel, and she has a lace apron that is full of flowers that are yo-yo's. She of course is a garden angel.

I made a quilt using the yo-yos years ago. I'll post a picture as soon as I take one. Can you believe, after 40+ years I've never taken a picture of this thing?

I did use yo-yos to decorate a tee-shirt one year at Christmas. I just want to warn you, those things are heavy. I know the quilt is very heavy and the decorations on the tee-shirt felt like wearing an overcoat.

Yo-yos are fun to make and a great project to take with you everywhere you go.

Yes they can get heavy, depending on fabric, and embellishments that you use. If I'm going to use several on a quilt project or other project, I alway try to use fuseable on the underneath side of the item thats going to be attached to. If I can't for some reason, I'll limit the amount. But they are so playful and versatile. Tiny ones are cute.

If you want to make your own Yo-Yos you can get a Yo-Yo maker. I have only seen them on line at quiltinaday.com but maybe they are in your local store. You can get them in several sizes, flowers, and hearts.
