What are you doing this morning???

I am determine to get my sewing room cleanned and organized this morning. My fabrics are taking over the room. I am going to get rid of some of my scraps, donating them to the local thrift store. Refolding all of my fabrics using the ruler method and putting them in Clear bins. I have done a bunch this morning...what a difference!!! I have fabrics that I have totally forgot about. They are now easy to see and it does not look like I have as much. Much less of a mess. I have been cutting flannel pieces to make a Grinch that stole Christmas quilt for my hubby...I just need to cut the cotton front side pieces and batting. I have a ton of left over batting so perfect for the rag quilt.
I still have a closet full upstairs, but one step at a time...or one bin at a time.

I finished filling up one bin, so now to my other challenge...I do two rows a day on my latch hook rug. I use 1 to 1 1/2 inch scraps. It takes a lot of fabric...totally amazed how much it does use. The rug is nice and heavy. Once done I will use rug binding or burlap on the edge. Well off to do two rows and then I can bring to quilt. ; )

Yarn or Fabric 10-06-2012 02:36 AM

I love ruler folding fabric! It was the best thing I could have done in my craft room - it also condenses the material somehow as opposed to the way I used to fold my fabric (in to big clunky squares)

Me? I'm trying to wake up since I woke a bit too early this morning... then after others in the house start waking up, I'll be able to make a little noise and get ready to sew. My guild has a day long Sewing Saturday every few weekends. They decided that until Xmas they would like to meet more often to get more sewing done before the holidays... so I'm going to pack up my paper piecing project and go sew :D I'm about 3/4 the way done with my dragon paper pieced quilt so I'm going to kick out more of the pieces I think.... I'll bring a back up plan just in case... I always bring a second project to do just in case I get frustrated with one of them....

JenniePenny 10-06-2012 02:51 AM

Great job on the organization! I've got to go for a morning walk (about 4 miles) while the traffic is light. then I'll be back in the sewing room.

mcdaniel023 10-06-2012 02:51 AM

I am working on some purses and gifts for my secret santaee. I hope to run by and visit my grandkids later.
I love the ruler fold method...so much easier to see what you have. Mine are in a cabinet. I don't miss those totes!

Love the rug!

Scraps 10-06-2012 02:52 AM

Good Morning! I woke at 3:30 with pain from a cortisone shot in my shoulder ---- never thought to get on here at that hour!! I am fascinated with your fabric rug hooking. I used to do the yarn ones years and years ago. You mentioned quilting it?!?! Really? That looks like something I could do in the car while traveling. Have a good day!

carolaug 10-06-2012 02:54 AM

I can't wait to see your dragon quilt!!! I just finished my two rows on the latch hook rug so now off to design my rag quilt and to figure out how many more pieces I need to cut for the other side of it. My husband wanted it to be 60 x 90 inches. Can't believe I am already making a Christmas quilt....where did the summer go?

carolaug 10-06-2012 02:57 AM

I meant begin to quilt...not the rug, my next project, my rag quilt...guess I need more coffee. ; ) and yes..its a great project for the car or the waiting room at the doctors or vets. Its very easy.

Good morning to you all! I do have a mess in the corner of my room I need to start working on. The cats have claimed it as their own now. Yuck!
However, my husband is finally on a "normal" schedule and we aren't doing anything that isn't "fun" today!! It will be so nice to have my "running around buddy" back!!
Tomorrow, he does have to work, and I will work on the house a bit, then try to finish a quilt. The borders are awful on it, and I'm not sure what to do about that.
Craftydeb, I went to your website and I love your little crochet designs!! Great job!

117becca 10-06-2012 03:01 AM

Wow - I didn't think there was anyone else up in the world earlier than me on a Saturday!! :)

What is the "ruler folder fabric" method???

I am going to a quilt show in Greenville OH. Looked at hitting 2 others(I have $50 gift certificate to one!!), but they are just too far away and only open until 3. I can't get it all done in one afternoon. That will be another Saturday adventure.

I am working on a quilt for my friend - will be sewing on it while watching football this afternoon.

JustAbitCrazy 10-06-2012 03:02 AM

No quilting for me today. Going to a Civil War reenactment. First time for me, so I'm excited to go.

117becca 10-06-2012 03:03 AM

Sorry about the shoulder hurting!!!

Pat625 10-06-2012 03:05 AM

I love the rug!! How exactly do you do this?? I have scraps all over because I hate to even throw out the littlest piece!
Today, I want to work on some purses for a craft show and Christmas gifts. I need to go shopping for some supplies to finish items for my Secret Santa and ornament exchange. I was going to try to clean my bedroom where I work, biut figure I wil just mess it up all over again....maybe after the show??

Just Me... 10-06-2012 03:17 AM

I spent some time this morning going through my quilting magazines to find another board member info for the French Farmhouse quilt I did. Well, low and behold--the only thing I found was MORE projects I want to do! Ugh! LOLOLOL

luana 10-06-2012 03:24 AM

Rise and Shine! Good morning everyone, no quilting for me today. We are going to state marching band contest. It's 32 degree right now, so I will be digging out the winter coat. I love organizing my sewing room. Feels so good to get things in their place. Sorry about the shoulder pain, that's not fun. Hope you are on the mend soon. Until then, we are always here for you.

happyquiltmom 10-06-2012 03:25 AM

Looks like Locker Hooking, not latch hook. The tool looks like a large crochet hook with an eye in the end. We carry a book at the LQS where I work, entitled "Fabric Locker Hooking" by Kathleen Carpenter. She gives step-by-step instructions on how to do this technique. It's a great way to use up your crappy WM fabric.

Atomicdog 10-06-2012 03:54 AM

Quilt show today!! Can't wait to see and be inspired! Luana - I LOVE marching band comps - had 2 kids involved back about 10 years ago and it's just a great way to be out enjoying a day - have fun and good luck!
Cindy

davis2se 10-06-2012 04:01 AM

I will be finishing 2 round, fall table toppers and a matching wall hanging. Just need to cut and sew the bias binding for them all. Then I need to figure out how in the world to hang the wall haning. It is a large 1/2 circle, or arced cut, and I am going to hang it over our fireplace insert, on brick. If anyone has any good ideas on how to do that, I'd sure appreciate the input. Otherwise, have a great Saturday y'all.

Quilt show for me today also.

Two grand daughters are in band and going to a band festival today. I guess this is the season for that. They are waiting for marching band season to be over.

HillCountryGal 10-06-2012 04:16 AM

Ruler method?
Guess I haven't heard of that. Anyone care to explain? Thanks..

There's so much I want to do today. Finishing up a quilt for 14 year old grandaughter. Also, have the bug to clean, sort and organize. Don't guess I'll get much done sittin' here visiting with y'all. So......

Ioftheneedle 10-06-2012 04:20 AM

I hope to work on a lap quilt for my husband. Outdoor print with deer, turkeys, quail and such. I'm trying to keep it a surprise. Now wondering what to put in the crockpot.

MamaBear61 10-06-2012 04:38 AM

Sounds like everyone is going to be busy today. I will be putting final preparations on tomorrow's menu for a family gathering (Canadian Thankgiving and celebrating October B'days for 2 grands) so no sewing room for me today except for putting things in their place and closing the door to keep the 6 grandchildren from rearranging it for me when they are here tomorrow :-)

GemState 10-06-2012 04:43 AM

One pf ,u best quilting friends and I are going to the grand opening of a GUESS WHAT??????????..........QUILT SHOP!!!
The shop is moving to another small town nearby and today is their big day!! It is going to be a beautiful day so what more could one ask for?

nanna-up-north 10-06-2012 04:51 AM

It sounds like all of you are going to be busy today.....me,too. I woke up to a dusting of snow here in the UP.... beautiful. .... wish I could just sit and enjoy..... but.. we are headed to a book sale and fiber fair this morning, then we'll come back home to watch football games and baseball games. I'll be working on a lap quilt for my great nephew as well.

I love those locker hooking rugs.... they make my ugly fabric disappear. I made one rug with a bear in the middle for our cabin and another rug is just lots of different fabrics. I'm planning on doing another one this winter with a fish in the center.... again to take to the cabin. But, I turn the outside edge in and do 4 rows all the way around. I don't have to make any kind of border that way.

You all go have a wonderful Saturday.

Chicca 10-06-2012 04:58 AM

I plan on quilting a lap quilt today and working on a cross stitch project along with doing some cleaning. Sure sounds like all of you have great projects/events planned for the day so have a great one!

patsynel 10-06-2012 05:02 AM

I will be going to JoAnn's with my shopping list, then a visit with Grandson. Back home to watch the game and do some sewing. No quilting today , working on jacket for myself and pjs for sister's Christmas gift.

Pam B 10-06-2012 05:09 AM

I love the rug, too! Will need to search out that book. Very busy day ahead for me...need to sweep and dust and run to grocery store. All 3 of our kids plus spouses/boyfriend will be here this afternoon to watch college football and then to have a weinie roast. I also will try to sneak a little time to work on my American Beauty quilt.

SharonTheriault 10-06-2012 05:21 AM

I'd like to know what the ruler method of folding is too. Can someone tell us how it's done? I'm working on organizing my sewing room and found a couple of unfinished projects to work on. Don't know what I'm going to do today, but after 5 cloudy, rainy days, it's a beautiful morning to enjoy.

franc36 10-06-2012 05:22 AM

Great organization! I love your latch hook rug! I'm on my way to my sewing room to pin together a quilt sandwich. I need to get it off my cutting table as I want to start working on tracing the pattern and getting my fabric cut for an appliqued Autumn BOM. Hopefully, I can finish the pinning this morning and start on the BOM this afternoon. Guess it will be Monday before I start doing the quilting on the quilt I am pinning. Wish me luck. Today I need it.

Sunnye 10-06-2012 05:58 AM

Visiting my son in Charlotte for his 25th birthday!

Kitsie 10-06-2012 07:41 AM

Woke in my recliner and cleaned up the kitchen after family supper last night. Now its "morning tea and the board time", then choosing fabrics for the rest of Row G of my Dear Jane after I let the chickens out. (Boy, did they stop laying early this year and starting to molt already! Cold winter coming?)

Enjoy your day!

Here is the book on locker hooking. I bought the book but you really do not need one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hahk...eature=related - the locker hook is like $5.00 its a nice cheap hobbie.

carolaug's youtube suggest is a good one. Here is my finished folded fabric in my cabinet. (before and after)

pollyjvan9 10-06-2012 08:07 AM

I am still working on UFOs. My goal was to finish 5 a week, but I went through all the almost done (easy) ones quickly and so I have slowed down. I am working on quilting the border on My French Hens quilt. Hope to have it done before noon. Still have some quilting to do in the body of the quilt but it won't take too long.

carolaug 10-06-2012 08:10 AM

I need to start walking again! Good job on the 4 miles!!
