What is your favorite colors to make a quilt? Fabrics?
I love the autumn colors as my house is country (brown, orange, yellow, green).
I am working on a scrappy disappearing 9 patch (D9P) made from fat quarters. I got the top done, just need to buy the batting and backing. |
Oh would love to see it ! Pics Please
Me too. Pic's please Craftybear.
Blues, Greens & Purples seem to be the dominating colors. But I have made several with many different colors. Not exactly scrappy, but much variety. My tastes vary alot depending on my mood. I've got more traditional ones in the works and also like contemporary fabrics/patterns.
My favorites are pinks and purles! Really love all the 30's stuff, pastels especially!
I do not discriminate(sp?) against fabric colors. I want them all and I mean all,as long as they are not ugly.LOL
My favorite colors are orange, green, and yellow I prefer bright colors, no dull/pastels for me :) :) :)
I tend toward warm fall colors but I don't discriminate against any color family. If I could, the next time I walked into a quilt store, I'd take every bolt home.
:) |
I always tend toward cool colors...mostly turquoise, blues, greens. Batiks are among my favorites, but also traditional small prints are really easy to work with, and for bright stuff, large florals in red, orange, yellow can't be beat!
I love blues. I would make every thing in blue and white.
I'm pretty open minded. I try to find a focus fabric first and if I love that, I'll love the quilt. I then pick colors from the focus fabric.
I know I've made at least 500 quilts, probably way more, and I don't believe there are any colors I've avoided. One thing I notice, looking back, is that I have a strong tendancy to include both warm and cool colors in a quilt. I've made both high and low contrast quilts also. |
My favorite is the 1930's fabrics. I have done a red and yellow quilt and a batik with oranges and blacks and browns. Most of the quilts I have made are pastel.
I love the blues & yellows. Who am I kidding I like red, white & black, also green, blue & lavender, and just all the colors, lol!!
I love autumn colors also - deep rich colors - just thinking of painting our dining room a sage green... now it's maroon (half way up) to the border (scarecrows and seasons). Our living room is the maroon, cream and country blue. I love the deep colors.
Pink is my favorite color. But I love all the reproduction fabrics, especially the calico ones. I have a small collection waiting on me to make it into a Sunbonnet Sue quilt.

But I have to say I am LOVING the purple quilt I am working on now. Never used just one color before - even my husband says it's the prettiest quilt he has seen me do so far. Will post pics soon. |
Oh my.. I love patriotic quilts.. I've made lots of them. I like scrappy quilts and will use any color I have in them.. the more the better.. but I always go back to good old Red, White, and Blue.. I like traditional Red red and stark White, and Navy Blue.. but I also like the Americana colors too.. Burgandy, tan and deep blue.. I've never seen a quilt I don't like, but for me it's patriotic!

I love blues or fall colors.
I love autumn colors and green with purple.
When I'm looking at fabric the purples and lavenders and greens seem to catch my eye.
I like brights and batiks.
All of them. Depends on what I'm making. I have trouble with solid orange (yes, I'm in TN, but we don't ALL like orange), and solid browns. If they are in a print I have no problem.
Just make mine country. |
I love most fabrics and colors, except the dreaded 60's-90's prints and color combos. I am not a fan of paisley with green brown and orange. especially when the green is a sickly olive green. I do like the colors separately however.even combined in a quilt might be pretty depending on how they were combined.

Autumn and earthy colours for me.
Purples and greens and blues.
I like clear colors, not so much into the civil war, 1930's or antiqued colors. |
I like all colors but I tend to lean towards autumn colors for my own things. I am working on a BOM where dark purple batik is the main color and it is coming out nicely. I just finished a lap quilt with bright oranges, yellow, pink, green and blue that came out cute. I have a hard time with red so I am going to make a black and white quilt with a little red in it to get over it. LOL!
I'm new to quilting...well sorta new. Decision for colors has had to be determined by the design and who it will go to. I just finished a beautiful pink/black/white one for special niece...chose those colors 'cause they're her favorites. She doesn't know she's getting it yet!!! She's 8 years old. Soon as I learn to post pics I'll do that.
I am very partial to autumn/darker fabrics and earth tones. Fall is my favorite time of the year! For some reason I shy away from brights and pastels.
Never, never ever pastels. Other than that I really don't have a favorite. Different colors attract me on different shopping days. If I always purchase what I like, ultimately it all goes together. Sometimes I purchase mostly darks, the next time I might purchase mostly brights. I am always amazed when I get home and put it in my stash -- its all blends together with just the right "POP".
Well, so far ive only been making them for my girls and a pregnant friend....
i really love autumn colors and eventually plan to make something for myself soon :D i hope |
I'm with you, harvest colors are the ones I love and buy most often and most often fabric by Moda.
I don't really have a favorite. There isn't any colour that doesn't appeal to me - what I choose depends on what I'm making.
I love all shades of blue and indeed have a whole drawer packed full of nothing but blue. I tend to make scrap quilts tho because I can't make myself limit my colors in one quilt. I greatly admire antique quilts with 2 or 3 colors in them. I also collect fabrics with gold threads and have those in all colors.
Same here!
For my quilts I love all colors - but I don't like black. This is very hard to hand quilt because it seems to "swallow" all the light you need for quilting!
