What is your favorite part of making a quilt? Cutting it out? Designing? Piecing? Quilting? Binding?

Me....I love piecing the tops....I just love seeing the colors go together and the shapes take form.....like putting a puzzle together. I can just do this over and over and over. Gee, if I did this, I could have a never ending stack of UFOs. But it's like an addiction even while I am finishing a project I find myself day dreaming and my mind wandering on over to a new project.

Anyone else have that problem....or am I bi-polar, tee hee. :-D

Planning! Pattern, color, layout, picking fabric. I think I like it because the 6-year-old in me can come out to play. She loves to color on grid paper.

I agree with both of you. I love the planning, the hunt for fabric and the making of the top. I can take or leave the quilting part. Although I don't mind the hand quilting, just do small projects.:)

No doubt: the hand quilting and planning the quilting designs!

Machine piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting, and hand binding. Cutting, basting, blech! I hope to learn and enjoy machine quilting better.

I think I have come to the point where I like designing patterns the most. Second would be cutting the fabric.

I am just like you,I can piece tops for ever and keep thinking what one next.

My favorite part of making a quilt is wrapping it around the new owner!

planning from layout, color, embellishment, quilting, etc.

i have it all mapped out on computer before i ever cut fabric.

that is a description of my mind exactly! It is so much fun to see all the planning and shopping and piecing come together into one beautiful piece of artwork!

I love after I make the sandwich, to sit down and quilt away.

Trying to pick is torture. I love the whole process.

I love everything about making a quilt. I even like binding it and the hand sewing part.

Piecing and hand quilting is my favorite part. I enjoy all of it.

Nah, you're just like many of us that are "process" quilters rather than "project" quilters.

I like designing and sewing the blocks, but not necessarily assembling the rows, borders, first attaching the binding, and quilting. Though I don't mind hand-finishing the binding. I, too like to see how the colors all work together!

Designing -- I plan a lot more than I get sewn.
But nothing beats the high of actually finishing a project!

I like all parts, but really enjoy hand quilting.
I try different blocks & than have a sampler to do ! :thumbup: :D

I totally agree with you.

This is one of the hardest questions I've ever had to think about!! I like designing on my Quilt Pro program, but I don't do it frequently, so that's probably not my favorite part. I love looking through quilt books and magazines (and on the QB!) and picking patterns for future quilts. I LOVE picking fabrics, so much so that I've "bundled" 60 bundles of fabrics for future projects just because it was so much fun matching up fabrics together. I LOVE cutting my fabrics, and will sometimes cut a new quilt while working on another just because I can't wait to cut out a new quilt! I LOVE sewing on a quilt, especially a new quilt. I can't wait to start those pieces flowing through my machine forming beautiful blocks. I enjoy hand quilting, and I can get addicted to it at times. I have tried a little machine quilting, but I'm not very good at it yet. I love applique, and I even like sewing on binding. I tend to have several projects going at the same time and I have a slew of UFOs. I guess my favorite part is STARTING a new quilt and my least favorite part is FINISHING them!! LOL

I like it all except the quilting part .. I am sooo greatful for Long Arm Quilters. Nothing is worse than wrestling a big quilt through my small opening. There is a reason why there are lots of tops out there that never got quilted... those quilters had the same issues that I do.

Me too and I think that's why I never get bored with quilting like I did with counted cross stitch, crochet and knitting.

piecing and picking out fabrics, hate cutting, hate binding, haven't tried my hand at quilting yet so can't say if I like it, but practicing has been fun

Planning and anticipation -- most of mine are still WIP's and are mostly to the point of getting ready to handquilt.

I hate cutting, like hand quilting, and really love binding because it means I'm nearly done.

cuddling! once it's 100% finished and I can cuddle in it :)

I think I like everything everyone's mentioned, but my favorite part(s) are:
1. the look on someone's face when I hand them "their" quilt
2. sleeping under a quilt that I've made

I love the whole process from start to finish.

Love, love the fabric shopping!! I enjoy the rest also, just don't like the sandwiching and pinning at all!!

I love piecing, and watching it grow.
But really my favorite is putting in that last stitch and starting on my next project.....

I love giving them to someone I know will use and appreciate them. I have completed all but one UFO and will tackle that one shortly. It will be with brocade fabric...A little scary for me as the fabric is so expensive. But I am down that one being the only one left to start sooooo my favorite part of that one will be to make the first block.

Everything is wonderful. And going to the quilts shows to everyone's finished projects.

the idea process, the sewing process (whether it's hand or machine)....and the sleeping under/giving away process...

Gotta live another 100 yrs to finish all the ideas I have...

I like everything about the process - some things are tedious and yes I make mistakes but the big picture makes me happy.

I love the planning-cutting-piecing. I hate sandwiching (probably because I'm not good at that) and I was very surprised to find that I do not enjoy the quilting at all. I love bindings!

Shopping for fabric has to be the absolute most fun part of quilting! Sandwiching the quilt is not so much fun. Hurts my back, and it seems no matter how careful I am at pinning the pieces together, it's never perfectly centered.
