Whats the furthest space between quilting?
How far apart can you comfortably quilt with cotton batting in between and not have the batting seperate over repeated washing?

Depends on the batting. It's usually listed on the package. If you buy by the yard maybe on the store display.

Yes, you chek the packaging for the quilting requirements. The old cotton batting was not very stable that's why it was densely quilted. My Hobbs 80/20 fusible says up to 4 inches apart for the quilting. Some others batts say upwards to 10 inches. It really depends on the batt. Do you know what brand of cotton batt you have?

The batting is warm and natural, bought it by the yard but no longer have the paper with info on it. |

Yes, 10 inches is the max distance for Warm & Natural. This is because W&N is needlepunched through scrim, which makes it very stable.

Your batting should tell you on the package. Straight cotton recommendation is 4-6 inches. Blends can go a little further. That's why I like the Warm brand - I always quilt more than the maximum for appearance sake.

there are some batts that recommend 2" apart- some (warm & natural) that recommends up to 10" apart---and others in between- it is always important to check the specific batting you are using- they all have their own specifications- some say good for tied quilts- some require fairly dense quilting- each is it's own. generally a batt with scrim is 8-10" between quilting lines- batts like mountain mist (prefered by hand quilters) needs to be quilted much more densely.
