Tonight I read about a fabric shop in Poland. They have very little cotton fabric in the very small store. But most women there don't sew, and hardly any make quilts. I'm thinking we have lots more fabric and LQS because of the quilting boom that grew in the 1980's. Made me wonder how old are the LQS in your area?

My nearest LQS opened 24 years ago. The great thing about it is that is just a year after I started quilting - so it worked out great for me and the QS. Lucky for all us locals, she has a booming business and has done 2 expansions.

My LQS just celebrated 110 years. Now when I was a kid it was more than just a quilt store it was also dress fabric. In my early teens I would "shop" there to see all the beautiful dress fabrics. Mainly just dream about what I would do with it

Wow - The Cedar Chest here in my little town has not been open a year. Their birthday celebration is in March. I've been invited to the party :) and can't wait to see what fun things happen that weekend.

Mine has been in business at least thrirty years, but it changed hands several years ago. That was an improvement. Another has been about a year and half.

We really struggle for good shops in the Uk but there are some....I live in the South West am blessed with Fabrics plus at Keynsham, Midsomer Quilters at Chilcompton, Busy Bees in Newport, and Spinning Weal i Clevedon....all hold different stock so sometimes it's a bit of a trail to find what I need......hardest to find near me is good quilting groups that are so precious they don't make newbees feel welcome !

My LQS has been going for a little over 4 years, it is about a 30 min. drive from my home.
There was a fabric shop about 15 min. away that had been there for about 27 years, but she just sold her stock and it is going to a town about 40 min. away.

The one here in town has been here less than a year. I'm not sure it will make it. We are a very small area and still have a Wal-mart with fabric. The ladies in the shop don't seem overly knowledgable about quilting. They do have beginner classes (like how to make a pillowcase) so that might help them out.

We've not got one. :-( We did, but it closed 2 years ago. The nearest one is 30 mins drive away now and is very expensive. So, it is the internet for me.

I forgot to list mine. The one nearest to me is about a mile. It is in its 31st year, original owner sold it a few years ago to the current owner. There are 3 or 4 others in the county here.
