Big frame but I haven't hand quilted in quite a while. (My cat, Puss-nees, loved using the quilt as a hammock.)

I use no hoop, a finger cot on my thumb, and a leather thimble on my middle finger to pull the needle through when needed and it is very relaxing! I despise hoops...tried them, didn't like those at all! It takes practice but you can make even beautiful stitches without a hoop.

I have the EZ3 Grace frame. I used for 1 quilt so far. But since I am only 5 foot tall, it was very uncomfortable for me. I will try again on another quilt. I started out on a 14" quilting hoop but on the quilt I am working on now I am using a 12" quilting hoop. I like it better since I have short arms so don't over stretch. I bought 12" at Hancock's Fabric and believe it is a Dritz.

I have used them all I guess. I have a floor frame, floor hoop, different sizes in hoops you hold. I like all of them depending on what I am working on. The oval hoops are the most used for me.

I purchased a Laptop Hoop with sit on frame from Harry Barnett and love it. I have a few other hoops but this is the best one so far as I have short arms and the 12" frame works for me, the hoop spins so I don't have to get in those awful positions to quilt and no back pain.
I guess I will be getting rid of those other frames eventually. Deb |
I like the laptop hoop also. I have an Ulmer's frame that is really easy to use and nice but don't have a place now to set it up.

I work on a 18" hoop on a floor stand and it works great for me for all sizes of quilts. Because I can only quilt in one direction (towards my body) a frame is not suitable for me.
