do you use a frame or do you let the quilt drape over your lap? If you use a frame, what type? Will the whole quilt fit in or just sections at a time? Just curious.

i am handquilting using an embroidery frame and it is taking quite a long time. Look forward to seeing other responses.

I use an 18 inch hoop find I get a more even backing and even stitches.

I have a large oval hoop on a stand and I find myself leaning over too much and I will get a back ache.

I prefer a 12" to 18" embroidery hoop and I rest the quilt in my lap.

I can not quilt without a frame, and I know some who can. My stitches are not even without one.

I have a floor frame. It only takes about 3' sections at a time and spins to adjust for the section needed.

I teach hand quilting and use the 14" No Slip Hoop by Morgan Company. It is sold at JoAnn's. It has a unique feature inside that helps keep the quilt secure. It can be used on large quilts.

I have tried a frame (multiple types) and I just cant do it.. :( I have to just lap quilt (drap over my lap).

I use a 14" (or maybe 16 or 18) hoop in my lap. I've done the 'no hoop' thing as well. I find I prefer using a lap hoop (kind of like an embroidery hoop but a wider edge) so I can find where I stopped! Don't really notice a difference in my stitch consistency with or without. I've never tried a lap or floor frame. Would be too much bending for me and not comfortable. I just sit in my recliner with my feet up and quilt away while watching the tube w/DH.
